HIT SAIGON!

Advantages: An excellent show, high quality throughout
Disadvantages: No helicopter!

number 'The American Dream' before the tragic finale. Without these kinds of 'humour breaks', I feel it would be rather a harrowing experience. I was also surprised how much I felt it taught me about Vietnam, it is a very political musical and does make you think. The American Dream was a highlight for me. Once again, Jon Jon Briones gets to take the stage and work it. He's a little guy with a huge personality and seemed to relish the chance to shine. Accompanied by the live dancers and animation by the legendary Gerald Scarfe, this is a number you will not forget for a long time after seeing it. SONGS The songs from Miss. Saigon seem to be less well-known than those of Les Miserables, for example (another one of Boublil and Schonberg's successes), which is a shame, as they are very good. Some of them don't have the impact on CD ...

Sweet life at Royal Palm Suite!

Advantages: Close to shopping centre/ city centre
Disadvantages: Shops close early, rooms slightly pricey

One one of my many visits to beautiful Trinidad, I decided to try the Royal Palm Suite Hotel in Maraval. Having stayed in quite a few hotels and having heard positive reviews from family members, I decided to give it a shot and hopefully have an enjoyable stay. The hotel is mid sized with 70 or so rooms or suites, and is a family run local hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly and always had a smile or a kind word. *LOCATION* The hotel is a 20 minute drive from the Piarco International airport and taxis are readily availabe at the airport at a cost of around £15 (guests can make prior arrangements to be met at the airport by the hotel's in-house taxi service as well). Maraval is a fairly affluent area in the city with some very beautifu, large and expensive houses nearby. Nestled between the Maraval hills, the hotel is ...

Orchestrating Music with Colourful Dialect

Advantages: Great performances of popular favourites and some rare gems
Disadvantages: Barely none, with perhaps slight issues with sound.

Compilation albums of classical music are often a somewhat hit and miss affair. Great for the beginner, not so much for a seasoned collector. Therefore finding compilations that step outside of the norm in offering something else from the evergreens like Eine kleine Nachtmusik, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, or Beethoven's Fifth Symphony and include some rarer gems is a thing that is ever so more interesting. Such was the sensation when I chanced upon this album, entitled "Colours of the Orchestra", a collection of orchestral treats that in various ways showcase the versatility and richness of a symphony orchestra. There is a number of composers included, all sequenced alphabetically, this set containing people from A to G. This album was then followed by a second collection that continued from where the first one ended, but personally I haven ...
