Advantages: great selection of artists and classics Disadvantages: one track a bit samey
...Ali Campbell's Running Free is a great mixture of songs featuring some equally as talented artists. What a brilliant CD to be given.
"' Why this CD?'"
I have been a big fan of UB40 since the age of 14yr and own some of their orginal albums on vinyl. For those too young to remember - those black things that came in 2 sizes 45" and 33" and when put onto a turn table played crackling, sorry cracking, sounds.
I was given this Album by one of my daughters who (due to being weened on the greatest Reggae bands of all time) is also a big fan.
We were both interested to see whether Ali's voice could be complimented by the featured artists as well as his fellow UB4O members.
'"Technical stuff'"
The CD has been produced & mixed by Ali, who also sings lead vocals on all tracks (plus much of the backing vocals)

Advantages: Very dramatic, emotional music Disadvantages: Not everyones cup of tea
...After our school did a production of Les Miserables last year, i fell in love with the music, the pieces are all very dramatic and emotional and the storyline is very romantic which for me is perfect, i love the fact that the music is so sensual but it is definitely classical music with a full orchestra and very depressing (set in the time of the French revolution, death is a common theme although good triumphs in the end). You will enjoy this music if you are someone that enjoys an emotional tale of love and honour, you wont if you are a hard-core rocker into death metal. However, saying that, if any music is going to convert you, this is going to be it!...

Jean Valjean was put into prison for stealing bread for his sister's starving child and the show opens with the prison scene. Javert is one of the prison officers who is determined that Valjean will return as his take on life is "once a thief, always a thief".
Jean Valjean is also determined that he will never return to prison and will make his way in life. However he is treated as an ex-con by everyone he comes into contact with, except for a local priest, who gives him a bed for the night. Jean Valjean decides to leave the priest's house in the early morning, taking with him...
