Did everyone see the Brits the other week? Yes? Then you will have probably seen a young lass singing a well-known song with a grammatically incorrect title and being accompanied by about 15 drummers. Yes 15 drummers!
I am of course talking about Avril Lavigne and her performance of sk8ter ... Read review

Let Go - Avril Lavigne
Self-professed skate punk Avril Lavigne sings that she'd "rather be anything but ordinary"

on her debut. While the fact that she had a record deal by the age of 16 separates her from the pack, too often Let Go's lyrical shortcomings drag the teenager's...
Advantages: A mix of kind of poppy rock, easy to listen to Disadvantages: Occasional weaker track
..."I'm with You", but don't let that fool you. This is another very rocky song with heavy guitar and drum accompaniments. The way these are played makes the beat seem faster than it is.
This song is about Avril feeling "Unwanted", surprisingly. It's about her trying to fit in, and being left out and ignored instead.
The lyrics to this song are also very fastly paced, especially in the chorus, where lots of short sentences such as "don't ignore me" ... ...numerous times, and this means that the words will become incredibly familiar after a time. A good song, but there are better ones on the album.

Song 7 - Tommorow - 3:48
Another slow song this, and another ballad. My personal belief is that Avril does these incredibly well, and that focussing on these would not do her career any harm, but hey I guess she's got her image to think about...
The fact that ...

Advantages: 'Complicated', 'I'm With You', 'Things I'll Never Say', Youthful joyous power pop with occasional hints of unexpected musical maturity Disadvantages: Occasional lyrical howlers, 'Too Much To Ask For', the rapped section of 'Nobodys Fool'
The current invasion of female singer songwriters from across the Atlantic is slightly curious. Curious in two respects. One they have managed to sell vast amounts in a short space of time in a genre that looked to be pretty much dead. Sure back in 95, with the Alanis breakthrough girls with guitars and attitude were temporarily the flavour of the month, and the talented likes of Sheryl Crow, Natalie Imbruglia set the charts alight. Riding on the ... ...were established artists: the likes of Sarah Mclachlan, Tori Amos. Even half-hearted imitators like Meredeth Brooks managed to shift a few albums. But tastes change, the downward trend seem to begin with Morrisette’s impenetrable sophomore release, but even as recently as earlier this year, neither Crow, nor Imbruglia nor even Morrisette could gain sales any where near the height of their fame, despite all three releasing career best albums. And ...

...white and reads, Aril Lavigne. Let Go.
Inside, the CD itself is black with the name and title of the album and artist in red lettering, along with a red star on top of a greyscale picture of whom we can only assume is Miss Lavigne. The inlay shows, various poses of Avril with the lyrics of the songs printed around them. Unremarkable and doesn’t give fair representation to the fantastic displays of talent about to be heard by the buyer of this album!
... ...really shows off her talent, you can see how well she takes on the strong parts of the song, not overly aggressive however, she also gets right to some of the higher points, sometimes sounding scarily like the Celtic lady known as Enya.
Track 2: Complicated 4:05
Quite a cheery and uplifting track, here she definitely shows her lyrical talents singing superbly catchy hooks that are easy on the ear. A little more of a poppy track and released for ...

“If you could only let it be, you will see”
3.Sk8er Boi
This is the second single released from the album, again this entered the top 10 of the UK charts and stayed there for a weeks. This may not sound as catchy as Complicated at first, but it will grow on you because it is a brilliant song that is very memorable. I cannot compare this to any other artists, this is original and unique with a very rocky edge.
“”He ... ...he wasn’t good enough for her”
4.I’m with you
This is a slow ballad with a rock feel to it. This is the third single to be released from this album. This is my favourite song throughout the album. It can be melodramatic song, but great Karaoke material where everyone can sing it and catchy. Avril’s voice is very soft and gentle in this song, but when it picks up speed and tempo, here voice becomes more like a rock singer ...

Advantages: Great songs that you can sing along to with your hairbrush! Disadvantages: You might not like punk music.
...got Avril Lavigne’s album, titled Let Go, for my birthday last year. I didn’t think I’d like it that much as I am more into rap and hip hop music and Avril’s punk rock ‘n’ roll style didn’t appeal to me. After listening to the album my opinion on Avril soon changed, her music is really good despite her moody 17 year old punk star appearance. Avril also has four other band mates Jesse, Matt, Evan and Mark, her ‘posse’.

After listening to Let Go a few times I think that my opinion on punk music has changed quite a bit as punk music can be mixed with pop sounds which Avril has done and she has made it sound really good. There are loads of really good songs on there which I keep going back to listen to. I would recommend the album for any age group as my mom likes some of the music and I even found my 4 year old sister dancing along to it!
