This is the 3rd of the 4th Cds I bought at Woolies on Friday, Great that is part of hubbys pressie for Christmas but when I got home I went out and he went snooping only to come home to find him saying this is brilliant, thanks.
Now I like the Beatles but am not a fan and I would not honestly know the difference between this and the other so I have had to ask the old hubby since he has played it about 40 times since yesterday.
The cover -------------- The original album was in the positive form of all the pictures of the Beatles. The front of the cover is silver and has negatives in black and white of all The Beatles.
Let it Be ... is in Black at the top and Naked is in Red. Under the pictures in black is The Beatles.
The back of the cover is an index and tells you about the extra 21 min disc called Fly on the wall which is studio chat.
The inside contains a lot of photographs and useful information about The Beatles. It contains transcripts of what they have been talking about and the centre spread is them on top of the Apple Building in Saville Row in London.
The Two CDs have a silver foil cover on them.
The Songs --------------- All the songs are played and written by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. All the instruments used in the songs are guitars and drums. Occasionally there is a session musician called Billy Preston who played the organ.
1) Get Back - The Rock and Roll record is sung by Paul McCartney . There is no particular story to this song. This is different to the original song as on that there is a bit more on the end of the song however this has been edited out at the end.
2) Dig a pony - Musical accompaniment and sung by John Lennon. I am getting
more interested as the original album there was a orchestra in this one, without it sounds more peaceful.
3) For you Blue - Sung by George Harrison, quiet background of drums and guitar. This is a song about love and how much he loves a girl. The song is raw and it is really nice. This is different from the original as he speaks in the middle of the record where as in the album this was edited out.
4) The long and winding road - sung by Paul McCartney, on the original there was an orchestra that Phil Spectre arranged and this has been given the chop. This is Paul playing the piano. This is about him finding his way along the road of life.
5) Two of us - Sung by John and Paul, with guitars and drums. This is the same as the album and has not been re-done. The song is about them both going home. I get the feeling this about both of them and their friendships
6) I've got a feeling - Sung by Paul McCartney, it is mostly guitar background with a bit of pianos in the background. The difference between this and the original is that the guitars have been brought into the forefront where as in the LP, they were always in the background.
7) One after 909 - Sung by John and Paul, a very fast song, the song was sung by the Beatles before they were famous in the Cavern. It is about the 909 train. Again all the pianos and guitars and drums were used in this. This is same as the original.
8) Don't let me down - This is not on the original LP and was the released as the B side on Let it be single. This is sung by John Lennon. This is a very screechy one and was first heard when they sang on the roof of the Apples Building in London and soon after recorded it. This one sounds as though it was taken from the time they were on the roof and has not been re edited. This song is about love and that nothing lasts for ever and not letting him down.
9) I me mine - sung by George Harrison, Drum and organ in the background which is where Billy Preston comes in. No really story to this song. I cannot tell any difference between this and the original. George Harrison's autobiography was called I me mine.
10) Across the universe - Sung John Lennon, this is a 60s hippy song. All the lyrics are mixed up and has french words in. In the original there was an orchestra in this. I love this song as it is about how things make their own way in the universe. This is a very complex and personal song and every one will have their own definition. This is slightly faster than the LP.
11) Let it be - Sung by Paul McCartney, Piano also played by Paul McCartney. This is a slow song and has a very good meaning and is a very powerful and is the same as the original. Basically it is saying leave things as they are and if there is a problem there will be an answer. This is also sounding like the original song.
Well that is the 11 songs on the Cd, now lets go and have a look at the free cd you get which is 21 mins long.
CD 2. -------- This is all studio sessions and The Beatles chatting away to each other, basically they are playing songs and are rehearsing and playing around. A very good cd for nothing as an extra bonus. This goes on for 21 mins. You have to listen hard to the speech as they are only talking and even if you turn the volume up, you will have to listen hard to the Scouse accent.
They are talking about changing words. All of them are having fun and trying to find words that rhyme with each other. Paul talks of his younger brother Mike.
There are songs on this that have not been released and my husband thought he knew everything, lol.
This is a great cd and you can hear them testing out possible songs and this song is called the letter and is mmm sorry rubbish which is probably why they did not release it.
Who would buy it? -------------------------- Everyone, I think all ages know about The Beatles, if you were a child of the sixties, brilliant, I was brought up with the Beatles and so were my parents and my grandparents. My nephew and nieces loves the Beatles and they will be after it. The booklet is also aimed at the youth of today as they are intrigued and buying millions of the cds and memorabilia. The whole cd and portfolio that comes with it is aimed at everyone.
Why was this re-made? -------------------------------- Paul McCartney wanted this album to be heard as it was intended and was never happy with the edited version.
Phil Spectror is an American record producer who was famous for his wall of sound and was unique in the 60s. (who is currently in jail for murder) George Martin was the Beatles producer and thought that Phil Spector messed around with the original tapes so much that it had an adverse effect on the Beatles sound.
Phil Spector re arranged all the tracks and added orchestras where he thought it was necessary. In the process of doing this some of the rawness of some of the tracks which were supposed to be represented were lost forever. However years later Paul McCartney decided it was time that the world should be able to listen to what the whole album should have sounded like, Abbey Road was the last Album by The Beatles. This was done before Abbey Road.
This is really hard to explain, right here goes, In August 1970, Let it Be came out as the last Album, though Abbey Road was the last to be recorded. The next to the last album which is Let it be, came out as the Last Album and Abbey Road which was the last came out before it, quoted from Ringo Starr.
Right this in English, Let it Be was recorded and never used for a while. The Beatles were still together. Then they record the album Abbey Road which was their final recorded Album together as a group. The last to be released was Let it be but by then they had split up.
The Beatles split up on April 10th 1970, Abbey Road was released in 1969 however Let it be was not released until August 1970. 4 months after they had split. This is why George Martin was never involved as they had all ready split up. Somewhere between these dates Phil Spector got involved and re mixed them.
Phew that was hard work.
Oh by the way yes we are Beatles fans and yes we collect a lot of memorabilia.
Get out and buy it for £15.99 from all supermarkets and Woolies or go to www.beatles.com for a look. Karen and hubby Gary xxxxxx

That's the second review of this album I've read. I think we might see about getting this one (but I won't tell my sister who always hated the Beatles).
How much better, you could be forgiven for wondering, could Let It Be be? The answer, ... more
perhaps surprisingly, is "a bit". Let It Be, while obviously better than almost everything ever recorded by anyone else, was compromised by the fact that the Beatles ...
