Let Yourself Go - Stacey Kent

"Prepare to be knocked out! What a discovery she is!" So wrote Humphrey Lyttelton of ... more

Stacey Kent's album,Let Yourself Go. The singer
first appeared on the scene with her style and
delivery fully formed. She immediately displayed a
magnetism and authority that have been consistent
through all her albums. The material gives this
one a head start, for it is made up of songs
associated with Fred Astaire and written by
Gershwin, Kern, Berlin and Arlen. Astaire was a
magical character and the picture of him in the
mind with top hat and tails is as vivid as the
singing of Miss Kent, who manages to be both a
throwback and a sign of the times. These are
stunning performances, with an outstanding jazz
group that backs all Miss Kent's performances. The
key to it is David Newton, one of the finest
pianists of the day, and his drummer Steve Brown,
while Miss Kent's husband Jim Tomlinson plays
reeds. The title track is a case in point, with
the singer taking an instant grip on the listener.
Tomlinson on tenor then swings as hard as Al Cohn
did and Newton lifts the inspiration even further.
The reason that the album is indispensable is
because that's roughly what happens on all 13
numbers. --Steve Voce

Let's Celebrate!

Advantages: looks cute
Disadvantages: retired

Company: TY beanies are amazing little teddies, that come in all shapes and form. Some of them are in the shape of teddy bears, the traditional style that sit on their bum with their arms aside them. Though some of them are actual animals, many creatures from the sea to the sky. One of the bears is called Celebrations. Celebrations: Celebrations is quite a positive name, suggesting there is something definitely worth celebrating about this little bear! Indeed, he was released in 2002 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. I must say, that is quite a special occasion for a celebratory TY beanie! Appearance: You cannot miss Celebrations among the others - he is such a bright orange shade that stands out from far off. Its a very rich colour, perfect for his occasion. On his chest there is alittle purple circle which contains a crown, marking ...

Review of TY Celebrations the bear

Letting Go with Some strength

Advantages: Something Different, Great to get into a good mood with
Disadvantages: Not as Rocky As Avril'd like

the softer sounds at the start of the track. As an opener it does well, it gives you an idea of what you?ve let yourself in for, as a stand-alone track then no - its not single material, but its just enough to make you want to keep going, giving you a good idea of what vocal range Avril has (obviously ranging from the soft quiet tone?s of the verse?s to the loud screaming sounds of the chorus), so it ain?t done nowt wrong for me. 2. Complicated (4 min?s 5 seconds): If you haven?t heard of this one get your head out of the sand now - some people are using it as a good indication for what the album?s going to be like to listen to - when they shouldn?t, it?s just that this is the track that has the catchiest tune so of course, if they release it as single first, you?re going to hook more of your part-time album buyers in. This ain?t Punk ...

Avril Lavigne - Let Go

Advantages: great pop-rock tunes
Disadvantages: sk8er boi ruined Avril !

of Napanee if she was to have any chance to fulfill her dream of being a musician. Her break came when she won a radio station contest to get the opportunity to sing with Shania Twain in Toronto, Canada. She later went on to perform for 'LA' Reid, and he immediatley signed her to Arista Records at the tender age of 16, a feat that stunned Avril. During the writing process for Let Go, Avril ended up going to LA after originally planning to write in New York. Her reasoning was that New York was lacking in inspiration and that LA would offer alot more to her. She was proven right, and went on to CO-WRITE the album over the next few weeks with her team of writers that were made available to her. The results of those writing sessions was Avril's debut album, Let Go. A mix of pop, rock and pop-rock all at the same time. Cynics have called her ...
