Advantages: Melodic, less punk than her last2albums.Vocally brilliant/lyrically stunning/musically unbeatable. Disadvantages: I cant think of ANY negative points and I have listened to this album for more than a decade!
To Bring You My Love is probably one of my most played albums since I first got it as a teenager! I really cant rate this album highly enough and the reason for this one being held in higher esteem than all her previous albums is simply that this album has a new found freedom the others dont seem to have.
Polly J Harvey split from Robert Ellis and Stephen Vaughn, which gave her the freedom to experiment and deviate from the old bluesy punk that dominated PJ Harvey's first two albums.
Although her previouos albums to this were very good and definitely a lot better than most of the bands around at that time, they seemed to focus too much on the harsh brutallity that punk is famed for (which is all good and well) but 'To Bring You My Love' gives a more complex theatrical variety of emotions to deal with. Advantages: The best of all the "Cracker" stories Disadvantages: Can be a little unpleasant at times
driven over the edge is tough and hard hitting and perfectly believable all the way along the line, which makes the whole thing easier to swallow and a little more disturbing than it would have been anyway. But it's not just Albie who is troubled, as all the characters have their failings and there are no real heroes here, just normal people with a job todo. This is a gritty, no-nonsense portrayal of the police in a way that you rarely see on TV and which reminds me most closely of Ian Rankin's "Rebus" novels.
The script has some great moments as well. Even in the midst of all the murder and mayhem which is going on, there some great moments. Everyone, from the main characters to the couple at their front door has a realism about them that is in keeping with the whole show. But even here, there are moments of humour as you get in life ...
****Ella Enchanted****
I was first drawn to this film because i love anything with Anna Hathaway in it and i must say i was not disappointed. The film is about a girl called Ella (anna ) who is given the gift of obedience by her godmother. She isn't allowed to tell anyone about this gift and it isn't a problem until her mother dies and her father remarries. Her Step sisters find out about this and use it to their advantage, getting Ella doto stuff for them, including stealing.Fed up with the gift Ella goes in search of the fairy godmother so the spell can be lifted and on the way she meets the prince and falls in love.As you can guess things don't go according to plan..
**Ella**
Anne Hathaway plays the part well. This was probably one of the last films she did before she "grew Up" and changed her image.
