Like many people I got to hear of Mika on the radio from his first single….Grace Kelly a catchy song I'm sure you’ll agree which goes through you head forever!!
Grace Kelly captured my imagination and made me buy his album Life In Cartoon Motion from Amazon (£8.98) It’s full of fun and happy songs which I just love everyday. It never seems to get boring!
----------------------------- What’s on the CD:- -----------------------------
There are 11 tracks in total on the CD and all are pretty good, although a couple are somewhat trying on the patients!!
----------------------------- 1. First of all it starts the happy hour and a bit of playing with…yup you guessed…”Grace Kelly”! I’m sure we all know this one very very very well by now! With its catchy lyrics about colours and a really high pitched voice which I have mastered the art of!! It was this track alone that made Mika his fortune and weeks at number 1 in the charts. Good on’ya!
----------------------------- 2. Then we roll into “Lollipop” which is a curious track, like all the tracks on the CD! About sucking on a lollipop…I think i'll stop now! A bit like Grace Kelly, happy and fun with a kid coming in in the middle!
----------------------------- 3. After this we have “My Interpretation” which doesn’t really resemble the title of it in a weird way! But again a happy song which doesn’t fail to get you singing along!
----------------------------- 4. Now we move on to
“Love Today”. This is one of my favourite tracks in this CD! And is also his new ‘single’ release. It’s got a great beat to it, like most of them, with lots of high points, very Mika, and lots of low points. I have this one on full blast on my commute to and from work!
----------------------------- 5. Then there’s “Relax (Take it Easy)”. This one isn’t quite as fun and happy as some of the others, but is also great to listen to with slightly haunting tones in parts and a great beat…again!
----------------------------- 6. “Any Other World”. This one is a little depressing to be honest! But I think all CD’s have their rather trying tracks, this one of them!!
----------------------------- 7. “Billy Brown”. This one’s funny!! I just suggest to you that you don’t play this one when you got kids around that copy things they hear!!! It’s all a bout the story of Billy Brown who was married but fell in love with a man….need I say anymore! I love it and the lyrics are catchy with the same old happy Mika feel.
----------------------------- 8. “Big Girl (You are Beautiful) I just love this track!! Being a…generously proportioned female myself (aren’t I polite!) it makes me feel great that there are men out there that don’t want a size ‘0’ girl. Again the happy Mika rides again with an awesome beat to it that’ll rock you out your seat!
Nearly at the end!!
----------------------------- 9. “Stuck in the Middle”. And what happens when you’re nearly at the end of a CD…..the tracks get crappyer by the…well…track! Mika has defied this rule and this is again a brilliant track. Happy, fun and cheerful with plenty going on to sing along to.
----------------------------- 10. “Happy Ending/Over My Shoulder”. Lots of long high pitched points and almost and gospel choir feel to it. Not much beat to this one but very soul music-ish.
----------------------------- 11. “Ring Ring”. This one is very serious to be honest! With quite ‘dark’ running tones in the background it’s quite depressing as well. With his deep voice in this one. Good lyrics though.

----------------------------- A little about Mika:- -----------------------------
Born in Beirut in 1983, he’s about my age!! He and his family though, had to move the Paris during the war. His dad was taken hostage during this time and the rest of his family, along with Mika, moved to London to escape. While in London, he attended school where he really struggled to settle in and forgot how to read and write and even talk for a while with such trauma. He managed to pull himself around though and a when a bit older he realised that music was what he was made of and found himself a singing teacher who was a “terrifyingly tough Russian”! but thanks to that teacher he made it into some of the top gigs going at the time but with him and his mother having no idea of what they should be charging, he had working coming out of his ears! From the Orbit Chewing Gum jingle to recording with the Royal Opera House. This man was a true genius in the making.
Now, he is hailed the second Freddie Mercury with a hint of Queen and Scissor Sisters he and his music is certainly unique and is well worth a listen. -----------------------------
----------------------------- Quality and Consistency of Tracks:- -----------------------------
They are all different in their own little way. All are great quality and are typical Mika ‘consistency’!
----------------------------- Compare with artists releases:- -----------------------------
As far as I’m aware, this is his first album....?!
----------------------------- Against competition:- -----------------------------
I think he wins. Although it is a tough competition against the likes of Scissor Sisters but at the moment, there’s is nothing else out there like it. Certainly unique!
----------------------------- Cover/Inlay Design and content:- -----------------------------
The cover is happy fun and colourful. And exactly represents the songs that are on it. Inside the plastic is the paper insert which has a bit of info in Mika and has all the lyrics so you can sing along.
----------------------------- Value for Money:- -----------------------------
Pretty much the same as other artist’s albums. £8/£9 isn’t unusual for a decent CD so I say its good value. Fun and Frolics for under a tenner…you can’t complain can you!!!
