Well there it is Life On A Plate. I would recommend it to anyone. But some of my friends do not like the singer’s voice. So in that way I think it is like Marmite in which you either love it or you hate it. Personally I think more people like it than dislike it. You have to listen to a few of them.
Look out for Millencolin as they do play Live in the UK quite a lot.
....That is what you will be saying after you have heard a few of their songs. Millencolin are a Swedish punk band and give every other band a run for their money. They have to be one of my favourite bands. Their sound is good with great vocals instead of some bloke screaming into a microphone.
The songs are very different to each other which makes a bit of a change from the monotonous tunes of other punk bands. It is possible to listen to Millencolin and never get bored.
I have chosen to do an op on this album because in my mind it has to be the best closely followed by Pennybridge Pioneers which I will soon be reviewing.
The album consists of 14 well executed songs with a wide range of sounds. The songs have great riffs and bass lines to keep you interested all the time.
Track Listing
1 - Bullion - What an opener. This has to be my favourite song on the album and really catches your attention for the rest of the album. It is also featured on Punkorama 2. Great Song. Some strange lyrics in this song maybe because they are Swedish. An example is "I wish I had the strength to make some muffins..."
2 - Olympic - Another top song with a nice intro and beat throughout. Quite a quick song and it is easy on the ears.
3 - Move Your Car - Great bass line that struck me straight away which really holds the song together. With a ska riff on the guitar which is played on the upstroke.
4 - Killercrush - Another great intro to this song which is played throughout the whole track.
5 - Friends Till' The End - You are chucked straight into the song and it is a real wake up call if you are losing concentration when you shouldn't be.
6 - A nice little drum intro hear and great guitar riff. Again with Ska style where you play on the upstroke. Very quick for the verses and then slows down for the chorus.
7 - Another superb song and goes with the tone the album with nice background singing.
8 - Very quick drum beat that takes a lot of skill to match the quickness of the rest of the song.
9 - Vulcan Ears - Ska style again with very strange lyrics but you can kinda guess that it’s going to be strange from the title of the song.
10 - Dr Jackal & Mr. Hide - Another excellent song with a powerful tune and a nice chorus which I really like.
11 - Softworld - A soft start with very easy to follow lyrics. A bit heavier at the chorus but not metal heavy just heavier than the rest of the song.
12 - I am sure I recognize the riff to this song. But this changes nothing a brilliant track. Just showing the album does not die out at the end.
13 - Ace Frehley - Well there is not much to say about this song, as it is only 7 seconds long. I think it is just meant to be comical add to the song. Well it came as quite a shock to me. I thought my CD was missing a track.
14 - Airhead - The last song on the album. A very happy and upbeat song. A great end and I love this song. I think I can hear some brass at the start of the song but I maybe wrong. It sounds like a saxophone to me and is very prominent in the middle of the song.
Well there it is Life On A Plate. I would recommend it to anyone. But some of my friends do not like the singer’s voice. So in that way I think it is like Marmite in which you either love it or you hate it. Personally I think more people like it than dislike it. You have to listen to a few of them.

Advantages: Its so worth the money!! Disadvantages: None
Life On A Plate, the second album by Millencolin, Sweden’s finest softcore punk outfit, is a perfect example that America does not totally rule the punk music genre. Millencolin, hailing from Örebro, were first signed to Burning Heart Records in 1993 and have since been added to Epitaph’s list of superb artists, thus promoting them within the Punk ‘elite’. As with most popular Swedish bands the lyrics are in English and in ... ...fascination and powerful assertion. Life On A Plate reached number 4 in the Swedish charts when it was released back in 1995, and since then Millencolin have progressed in leaps and bounds. With numerous shows alongside bands such as ‘No Fun At All’, ‘Lagwagon’, ‘Pennywise’ and many others involved in the Warped tours, Millencolin have shown that they are worthy to be on any label. ...

Though i do prefer millencolins later albums such as home from home (check review) i do also like their early albums as well.
The problem for me is that this album does after a while get on my nerves some of the songs are slightly annoying which hamper my enjoyment of this album, though dont get me wrong there are some very cool tracks also.
Like i have mentioned before millencolin are a sweedish punk band (im still shocked about that), though ... ...as nofx and bad religion. This album is different they have a slighty annoying voice and remind me of the younger days of NOFX.
This album comes with 14 tracks, the better songs to look out for are move your car and vulcan ears to me these stick out way above the rest.
The sound on this album is a lot more upbeat, all the songs are fun to listen to with their fast guitar riffs and amazing bass, the bass lines are real cool you should listen to ...

Advantages: YOU WONT BE ABLE TO STOP LISTENING TO THIS (i don't know whether that is a good thing or not) Disadvantages: DISADVANTAGES?
OK. GONE ARE THE DAYS OF 70S PUNK. OUT WITH THE OLD IN WITH THE NEW. THIS SWEDISH BAND ARE RUNNING RIOT WITH THIS THEIR SECOND OF 5 ALBUMS AND NOT BY A LONG WAY THIS IS THEIR BEST. THE THING I LIKE MOST ABOUT MILLENCOLIN IS THEIR ORIGINAL SOUND. THEY DON'T SOUND JUST LIKE YOUR AVERAGE PUNK ROCK BAND. THIS IS SOFTCORE AND IT IS A UNIQUE SOUND WHICH YOU WILL NOT HEAR ANYWHERE ELSE ON THIS GLOBE ANYWAY. THIS ALBUM IS THE KING OF SOFTCORE.IT IS DIFFICULT ... ...COS THEY ARE ALL SO GOOD BUT I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO SAY BULLION, KILLERCUSH OR MAYBE SOFTWORLD. MARK MY WORDS: YOU WILL NEVEWR GAT BORED OF THIS ALBUM. IT HAS NOT BEEN REMOVED FROM MY CD PLAYER SINCE I TOOK OUT THE NEW MILLENCOLIN ALBUM PENNYBRIDGE PIONEERS WHICH IS ALMOST AS GOOD.
IF YOU GET THE CHANCE TO SEE MILLENCOLIN LIVE YOU WOIULD BE A FOOL TO MISS IT TRUST ME I HAVE SEEN THEM THEY ARE IMMENSE ...

Advantages: Great songs with a wide variation in tempo and style. Disadvantages: Only really for Millencolin fans or punk rock enthusiasts.
and i feel that as time has gone on, the tracks produced by this band have got better and better!
Shelf Life - I have continued to listen to this ablum ever since i got it a few months ago and have not got tired of the songs or lyrics. Many of the songs will remain in your head for a long time as they are catchy and contain some quality lyrics.
Comparison To Other Releases - This was the second Millencolin album i bought (i now own two more - Life On A Plate and Same Old Tunes) and i can safely say it is my favourite of the four albums.
Comparison To Competition - Addmittedly I only really like Millencolin out of the Punk Rock bands, but with there unique style and consistency of tracks, they seem to be the best available in the genre.
Cover Design - The cover of the ablum is nothing spectacular but you are mainly paying ...
Advantages: great music, never get tired of them Disadvantages: none
”, as it contained the same song as “Tiny Tunes”. Three albums later, a couple of times around the world, hundreds of gigs and they recorded their latest album “Penny Bridge Pioneers”, which I am reviewing now, was named after their town Örebro as the literal translation is “Pennybridge”. They are currently recording their new album now somewhere in Sweden and should be out around February 2002.
