Advantages: Some good tracks Disadvantages: Some weak tracks
I'm not usually a big fan of soundtrack CDs. Sometimes they work and the music is evocative of a great film or television series. But often, the music tracks are too varied and you'll find you like some and hate others.
But I decided to buy the soundtrack CD toAshestoAshes, because the music is integral to the television series and while watching it, I often remarked on how good the music was. AshestoAshes is set in 1981 when I was 11-12 and fairly regularly buying singles, so I did think it would be worth buying this album.
The 1980s theme of the series is great and it is reproduced well in this CD. The album has twenty songs from the time, plus a couple of short interludes and the theme tune to the TV series. It lasts a total of 69 minutes.
The CD is a Digipak version, whereas I really prefer the more sturdy box. It ...
Advantages: Philip Glenister as the wonderful Gene Hunt, some funny moments. Disadvantages: Poor casting, trying too hard to be Life On Mars
with really odd make up! I won't spoil exactly who pops up in case you haven't seen it but it ties very much in with the Bowie music video of 'AshesToAshes'.
CAST AND CHARACTERS
Although if you've seen the original show you'll be fairly familiar with many of the characters, a lot has happened in the eight years since we saw the gang drive off into the sunset in that copper Cortina. DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) - Known from Life on Mars as the absolute epitome of hard men, Gene Hunt is the show's biggest comedy asset; Glenister has a way of barking out the Chief Inspector's one liners in a hilarious but completely believable fashion. However, this ...
Advantages: A hard act to follow with Life on Mars but it did! Disadvantages: In my opinion none
their accident or they are lay in a coma in the present time and they are dreaming.
The series then continues with Alex Drakes attempts to piece together various clues she receives from unusual sources which nobody else sees and find her way back home to her daughter.
The show has now had two continuous series and there are talks of a third series.
***Honest opinion***
From the start "AshestoAshes' had quite a lot to live up to after the instant success of 'Life on Mars'. I personally loved how the series captured the 80's feel it was great to the see the costumes and locations were true to the era.
I exceptionally loved the soundtrack and the way each song perfectly fit the each part of the storyline it was used in. The theme tune 'AshestoAshes' was again a David Bowie classic which was perfectly chosen.
The characters were amazing ...
