Additional notes
Album Notes: 'Lifeline' is Harper's ninth studio album, and his second accompanied by backing band The Innocent Criminals. The product of months of work on new material during soundchecks on tour, the album was recorded in the space of just one week at Studio Gang in Paris and subsequently features a more raw, live feel than previous efforts, whilst successfully maintaining Harper's unique blend of rock, contemporary blues and soul. This special edition includes a DVD featuring a live performance of the entire album at XM Studios.

Advantages: a superb exhibition of these guys talent Disadvantages: not enough recognition
...The first time I listened to this album, I was very pleasantly surprised. It isn't renowned as one of Harper's most successful albums, but it sure is one of his best. From the deeply moving "Beloved One" to the catchy "Steal My Kisses", this album guides you through almost every emotion with the Harper's soft and warming voice being the lead.
The lyrics are, as always with Harper, very impressive. There's a real sense that this guy is writing from his own experiences and that comes across through his delivery. It seems he is improvising every time you listen, something you missed the last time suddenly becomes apparent and his genius becomes evident.
Musically, again Harper and the InnocentCriminals excel. Every individual band member is talented and it comes across in the music. Small sections of improvisation perfectly executed add...

The Best of Ben Review ofLive From Mars - BenHarperby

Advantages: Classic Ben Harper with a choice of chilled out or rockin'! Disadvantages: The all-paper sleeve is a bit flimsy
...This live double album is the best BenHarper album ever...and Ben fans will know that there is some stiff competition!
Anyone who has ever seen BenHarper in concert will know that he is a spectacular and spellbinging live artist. This album captures the live experience brilliantly and would also be the perfect introduction to BenHarper for those who are new to his music.
This all-live album is spread over two discs - one of which showcases the band's funky rock sound and an acoustic album that lets Ben's smooth, beautiful voice shine through. The album features great renditions of all his classic tracks, including 'Excuse Me Mr', 'Steal my Kisses' and 'Another Lonely Day'... and many, many more. The album also features two brillant covers, a soulful version of the Marvin Gaye song, 'Sexual Healing' and a mellow take on the Verve...

Advantages: A real show of the talent that artists posses Disadvantages: nothing to mention
...I first came across Matt Costa as he supported Jack Johnson in Madison Square Gardens last summer. This is a man with some major connections (he has supported a variety of bands including Jack Johnson, Donovan Frankenreiter, BenHarper & the innocentcriminals, The Vandals, Built To Spill, Gomez and Pinback). This should give you an idea of the sound, and who is championing him as the next laid back Californian singer song writer of this decade.
He presents his life through song in a heartfelt lyrical blend of melody and passion, and the seeming effortlessness with which he performs leaves one wondering why songwriting isn't a more common form of communication.
Matt Costa's skill with a guitar is immediately apparent, especially in a live setting (there are many live recordings and alternative productions floating around the web...
