...The work of Ligeti has been at the forefront of Western avant-garde since his escape from the oppressive communist regime of Hungary in 1956, and he is widely appreciated as one of the most outstanding contemporary composers. The Trio for Violin, Horn and Piano because it was born out of a three-year period of illness and writer's block after the completion of Le Grand Macabre in which time he laboured over a piano concerto but completed only two short harpsichord pieces (Continuum and Hungarian Rock), yet the result in 1982 was the Trio, one of the finest and most complex pieces written so far. His career up to this point had included such sucesses as his Requiem, Atmosphères and the soundtrack for Stanley Kubrick's film 2001. Advantages: MacGregor's chameleon-like arrangements render every piece interesting, appealing.
Disadvantages: She remains in obscurity in the US.

...New music. Modern music. Contemporary music. John Cage, Charles Ives and Gyorgy Ligeti on the concert program are not exactly crowd-drawing names, unlike the ever-reliable and familiar Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, heck, even J. S. Bach. The ridiculous flap over British composer Mike Batt's facetious (and ultimately, expensive) homage to John Cage only enhanced my pooh-poohing of the avant-gardists as creators of unlistenable, pretentious music. In 2002, a controversial lawsuit was filed when producer Batt added a track to an album otherwise filled with the usual classical repertoire performed by a group of young musicians. He tossed in a silent track entitled One Minute of Silence. His mistake? To acknowledge Cage's 1952 piece, 4'33", in the composer listing of "Batt / Cage". WHERES HOTEL CALIFORNIA

Advantages: Great Album, High Quality, Tracks Lead on to Eachother nicely
Disadvantages: No Hotel California

...I like the Eagles. I also like this Album but it is missing one of the songs you would expect from the Eagles, possible their most popular song "Hotel California" I dont understand why they chose to omit this track from their aniversary album. QUALITY The Album itself is split into two CD's and there is about 10 songs on each. Pretty standard as far as CD's go. The CD quality is crystal clear as are all the recordings. All good so far. SONGS There are some great songs on this album many I have never heard and each song seems to lead nicely on to another. Really cleverly thought out.
