I first came across Sara Bareilles a few months ago while I was looking at my friend's Myspace profile who lives in Los Angeles. I noticed that the song was Love Song by Sara Bareilles. I had never heard of her before but really liked Love Song. She is really well known in America but had not yet made her debut in the UK yet. A few months later, around April time, I heard Love Song on my local radio station. I then realised that her song's were now gracing the shores of the United Kingdom.
Little Voice, which is her debut album, was released on 16th June, two months after her first UK single Love Song was released. Love Song has peaked at number 5 in the UK charts up to now and has proved to be a big summer hit.
Little Voice has a total of twelve tracks.
Love Song This was Sara's first single to be released in the UK. As I said before it managed to get to number 5 in the charts. The song has a
steady beat of a piano and light drums. Accompanied by good, catchy lyrics it is sure to be a huge summer hit. It has a light feel good feel to it. Even though it has a 'pop' sound to it, it is definitely not your average pop song. It has more originality to it than that. I can listen to this song over and over again and not get bored of it.
Vegas Compared to Love Song, this song is a lot quieter and more content. It starts off as not that catchy, but as the chorus kicks in, it becomes more up beat.
Bottle It Up This song has a light-hearted feel to it, with cool, smart lyrics. Not that catchy but it easy enough to sing along to.
One Sweet Love This has a very Alanis Morrisette feel to it. It has a very full chorus with an emotional feel to it. Again, a song that would be easy to chill out to.
Come Round Soon Like many of the tracks on this album, the verses are good but the real goodness comes in the chorus. Just like Morningside, easy to sing to and hard to stop your foot tapping away to eat.
Morningside One of my favourite tracks. It also has a Maroon 5 feel to it. A very catchy track, especially the chorus. Very easy to sing along too, another perfect track for summer!
Between The Lines This song reminds me of a similar one I have heard in the past, but I cannot think what it is. The melody of the piano is clear here and is later joined by drums, guitar and a bass. I really like this song as it is gentle, full of emotion but not too slow, still has plenty of beat to it. Sara's voice also shows how she doesn't just have a soft, gentle one, but also a powerful one too. Certainly not a 'Little Voice'. Love On The Rocks With a catchy beat to start the track off, Sara's voice accompanies the beat well. A perfect song to chill out to.
City This song has a lot of emotion in it and starts off with just Sara and deep piano notes to keep the melody. Sara's voices becomes a lot stronger during the chorus, as do the rest of the backing instruments.
Many The Miles The longest track on the album, starts off fairly slow but gets a lot more catchy when the chorus comes. The chorus is the best bit of this song, as well as Sara's feminine, soft voice.
Fairytale This is one of my favourite songs on the album. The track is catchy from start to finish. It is accompanied with fun, light-hearted lyrics. This another perfect summer song and would be sure to cheer you up.
Gravity The final track only consists of Sara's soft voice along with a piano and cello. One of those tracks that includes a lot of emotion but is perfect to chill out and relax to.
Unlike most albums nowadays, this has the track lyrics inside the cover, which is good as there is so many tracks to sing a long too!
Summary This isn't usually the sort of music I go for, but on the other hand, I like anything with a good beat and rhythm to it which is probably why I am such a fan or Sara Bareilles' music. So for anybody who likes music they can sing along too or feel-good/chill out music then I think this would be for you. To be honest, the only reason I brought this album was because I was a big fan of Love Song, which inspired me to buy the album, but I am glad that I did as it is twelve tracks full of decent music. It has been compared to Alanis Morrisette and the American version of KT Tunstall, which I agree with. I can also feel a Maroon 5 vibe to it, probably because of the catchy beats and rhythm. So overall, a very good album that I recommend you buy if you like Love Song.
For some reason, it is also fairly well priced. Your average debut album being available for around £8-£9, this is much cheaper, averaging at £6-£7.
Play.com - £6.99 Amazon - £6.98
I have seen it for more in Sainsbury's, priced at £8.97, so it is worth shopping around.
