beautiful setting, and substantial bonus features, then Alison Krauss and Union Station Live is destined to become your new favourite. It's not just for bluegrass fans either, as proven by Krauss's crossover success on the smash soundtrack of O Brother, Where Art Thou? as well as her pop-orientated hits such as "Now That I've Found You". That song plus "The Lucky One", "When You Say Nothing at All", and others are the perfect showcase for Krauss's meltingly gorgeous voice, and admirers of the concert's two-CD set will also find out how funny she is in her between-songs banter. AKUS has never been all about Krauss, however, so there are also instrumental jams plus featured spots for other members, including Dan Tyminski on O Brother's rousing "I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow". The second DVD offers 50 minutes of interviews in which all five members plus drummer Larry Atamanuik discuss their influences, their instruments and their favourite songs. There's also backstage and road footage, baby pictures and more. Perhaps the only disappointment is that two songs from the CDs are not included in the concert: "Down to the River to Pray", which is heard over the end credits but not shown on stage, and "There Is a Reason". --David Horiuchi
Advantages: One of the most amazing voices ever. Disadvantages: umm.. that there isn't more?
...Alison Krauss and Union Station Live and is a concert DVD. Allison Krauss has an amazing, clear voice and the band are incredible too. One of the members of Union station, Dan Tyminski, actually provided the singing voice for George Clooney's character in 'O Brother' and you can hear him sing one of the more well known songs from the movie on this DVD. ---
This is a double DVD and well worth the price because you get one disc of the actual concert ... ...I look forward to on live DVDs or cds, hearing how the performers actually interact with the audience in that setting. Here I wasn't disappointed by Alison or any other of the members of the band. And what a talented bunch they are too. Alison also plays violin. I have to say Dan Tyminsky (guitar, vocals, mandolin) is one of my favourites personality-wise, but they're all wonderful performers (Barry Bales on String bass and vocals, Ron Block on Guitar, ...

Advantages: Seriously talented Bluegrass performers Disadvantages: A few weak tracks
I bought this CD after catching the second hallf of this concert when it was shown on BBC4. I'd never bought, or considered listening to Bluegrass before but was so taken by it that I ordered this double CD the next morning off Amazon.
It turns out that Alison Krauss is pretty well known in the States and gained immediate recognition for her talent with her first album "I've got that old feeling" (1990), when she was just a teenager. I'd never heard ... ...and hauntingly clear voice. In fact all my favourite tracks on this double CD are the ones that she sings. She also plays the fiddle rather well and she's nice looking - Wow, so much talent in one human being!
Her band, Union Station, are all seriously talented musicians with Dan Tyminski on guitar, mandolin and vocals, Ron Block on guitar banjo and vocals, Jerry douglas on dobro, Barry Bales on bass and Larry Atamanuik on drums. These guys provide ...

Advantages: Great mix of two great artists Disadvantages: Bit of a slow tempo album
...I bought this for my partner as she loves Led Zepplin (Robert Plant being the Lead Singer). I am a fan of country/folk so I found AlisonKrauss appealing. This album is full of very slow ballad type songs with a couple of lively exceptions. But don't let that put you off. This is a very good album but I would reccommend that you listen to the whole thing in one go (possibly whilst in the bath or something similar) as this is a great collection to relax to. Most of the songs have so much emotion sung into them and this makes great listening. A personal favourite of mine is Killing the Blues just because the tone of both their voices really harmonises on this particular track.
You can tell they didn't make this for the money. This is about loving classic songs and putting their own twists on it.
Great album....
