Advantages: Great sense of fun and music abilty, lacking ego! Disadvantages: The Automatic and Fiddy!
Covers have always been a bit of a hit and miss affair. Some people do it well, some people don't. It can be commercial suicide and ruin artists' credibility. The recent trend over the years, pushed particularly by Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley, and other ventures such as Warchild, is that an artist can perform live, or record a cover and still retain their credibility and not come over as a sell-out. Maybe it's just that people have lightened up a little, or maybe it is just because there are things like the LiveLounge, that encourage well-picked songs to do as a cover.
Granted that the concept is not a new one, and even Jo would not say that. But, I think the idea of the LiveLounge is maybe new. For the last couple of decades, musicians and music lovers have been concerned about what is cool and what is now. Noone would have dared ...
Advantages: Brilliant Covers, Great Original Versions Disadvantages: Data Listings on MP3 Players Is Sketchy
need, which is currently on and this version from a little known indie band is pretty good.
10.: No One Knows - Queens Of The Stone Age
Dave Grohl guested on the album version of the track and since he is the Foo Fighters frontman, it was an instant hit. This is a really really good version of this track. In the same way that the acoustic version of Everlong is the *best* song EVER.
11.: How Come - Embrace
This was so popular after the LiveLounge that it was played ad nauseum after it was on, due to the listener response it got. With good reason too.
12.: If There's Any Justice - Blunt, James
Some people like James Blunt. I don't; I think he is whiny. He covers Lemar in a non-descript fashion. I actually skip this tune quite often.
13.: Scientist - Bedingfield, Natasha
I have no idea who this tune is actually ...
Advantages: can make you like a song you didnt before Disadvantages: can wreck songs
the livelounge CD from radio 1 is formed my covers from other artists found on the jo whiley show. The CD shows the raw talent of some of the uk's new and upcoming artists. This CD also shows songs done in different ways, an intresting change to the songs you enjoy to listen to, and also making you love a song that before you could not stand to listen to. This CD contains 2 CD's so is full of tracks, 40 overall.
the songs are done by jo whiley having bands on her show where they preform a version of there current single and then a cover. all done live.
Some of the tracks on this album are an instant hit, but some can wreck your love for certain songs.
a must buy, a new change for music. ...

Album Notes
Personnel includes: James Carter (saxophones); Franz Jackson (vocals, tenor saxophone); David Murray (tenor saxophone, bass clarinet); Larry Smith (alto saxophone); Johnny Griffin (tenor saxophone); Dwight Adams (trumpet); Kenn Cox (piano); Gerard Gibbs (organ); Ralph Armstrong (bass); Leonard King, Richard "Pistol" Allen (drums). Recorded live at Baker's Keyboard Lounge, Detroit, Michigan, between June 16 & 18, 2001. James Carter seems capable of almost anything on the saxophone. He veers easily from the deeply lyrical to the fractured and postmodern, from clear mastery of old-school bop to frenetic outside playing, without ever seeming forced or derivative. While much of LIVE AT BAKER'S KEYBOARD LOUNGE keeps the traditional jazz fires burning, Carter is never afraid to get labyrinthine, punchy, stratospherically cerebral, and downright tough. Recorded live at a club in Carter's hometown of Detroit, LIVE AT BAKER'S showcases his skill on three saxophones--soprano, tenor, and baritone. There is tight and easy interplay with the rhythm section, and the guests give the gig additional sparkle. Johnny Griffin and Larry Smith lend their tenor and alto horns, respectively, to the proceedings, while, on a funk-driven rendition of "Freedom Jazz Dance," David Murray turns in an incendiary solo, then joins the other horns for a tightly knit outro. Franz Jackson's raspy Armstrong-esque vocals on "I Can't Get Started" keep things earthy, and his incredibly cool scat solo on "Soul Street" must be heard to be believed. An exceptional outing, LIVE AT BAKER'S reinforces Carter's status as one of the leading lights in early 21st-century jazz.
