This has been my favourite album ever since I heard it, for the past 6 years - the only thing I would wish for that the album doesnt have is 'Over the rainbow' which is what I first heard from Eva, and was looking for an album with great reviews to buy which had that track on.

Advantages: absolutely stunning Disadvantages: the ONLY one for me is not having 'over the rainbow' - but well worth buying another album

Its as 'blues.soul/jazz' as it gets, delivered exceptionally, all the better for being completely LIVE. I would have loved to be in the audience when Eva was alive and singing this, the only sadness in the feeling after listening to this album is the sadness that such a beautiful soul and voice is no longer with us today - BUY it!
Advantages: a beautiful relaxing outstanding album Disadvantages: sadly departed a damn shame
...an amazing sounding lady, as live albums go this is one of my top choices, the songs are beautiful ,full of passion and soul, you cannot listen to this album without being touched by Eva's sublime voice. As female artists go Eva is my favorite, there is not one song on this album that i think "i'll fast forward this one". Her band do her a lot of justce as everything just fits together nicely.
For me the stand out tracks are "Stormy Monday" , "Tall ... ...Thread" , I like to listen to this with all the lights off and just sitting on the settee and just soak up the atmosphere. The only annoying thing on the album is the person who insists on tapping there glass whilst Eva sings tall trees in georgia,it must have been picked up by an atmos mic, i could slap whoever it was.
The whole feeling of the album just brings a nice sense of warmth and happiness to me it really is just outstanding.

Advantages: Beautiful music, consistently excellent. Disadvantages: She died too young
a complication of tracks from three separate albums. Five tracks are taken from the album 'Eva by Heart' (Wade in the Water, Wayfaring Stranger, Songbird, Time is a Healer and I know you by Heart). Four songs are taken from a live album entitled 'Live at BluesAlley' a showcase of her songs sung accompanied by her own guitar playing (Fields of Gold, Autumn Leaves, People Get Ready and Oh Had I a Golden Thread) with one song, Over the Rainbow, taken from an album of duets with Chuck Brown entitled 'The Other Side'
It was only when reading the insert hat I found out that EvaCassidy died of cancer in 1996. The album 'Live at BluesAlley' was recorded in January 1996, and Eva returned to BluesAlley in July to promote the albums release, this time walking with a stick due to a sore hip. She was diagnosed with cancer the next month and died on the 2nd ...

Album Notes
Singer Eva Cassidy achieved posthumous fame with SONGBIRD, an anthology of her finest moments. During her lifetime, however, Cassidy made a name for herself in Washington, D.C., where she lived and regularly performed. LIVE AT BLUES ALLEY captures Cassidy in her element running through a list of standards like "What a Wonderful World" and contemporary favorites like "Bridge Over Troubled Water." While Cassidy's choice of material might seem somewhat stock, her singing is anything but. Her clear, guileless voice dazzles in both its technical facility and its emotional expressiveness, and it is easy to hear why she had a dedicated local following (and would have broken through to a wider audience had it not been for her death in 1996). Fans of SONGBIRD should seek out LIVE AT BLUES ALLEY for a taste of Cassidy as she sounded in intimate quarters.
