sleeve.Claiming that "It's either this or prison" but nevertheless capping his most successful solo year thus far, Morrissey performed to 17,183 of his faithful fans at London's Earls Court in December 2004 in a manner (Morrissey's name in big red lightbulbs) intended to invoke Elvis' 1968 comeback special. Thankfully, asLive At Earls Courttestifies, Morrissey's life purpose is better served by rock than the jailhouse. Eremitic melancholia, mordant badinage and rancorous avengement. Nobody does it better. In fact, nobody other than Morrissey does it at all. Whether bemoaning surplus hormones on the breathtakingly immodest "I Have Forgiven Jesus" or wishing--rather self-servingly--that he'd been fashionably martyred in the Bavarian snow along with the Busby Babes, Morrissey never fails to raise an eyebrow. He may have spent his formative years with "three incredibly miserable people" but The Smiths' music endures, herein with slight concessions to modernity; Joan Of Arc now owns a melting iPod on "Bigmouth Strikes Again". Many of the titles are taken from the platinum-sellingYou Are The Quarry. Even the b-sides are grand. "Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice" sounds like The Pixies gone transsexual. Yes, the world is full of crashing bores but please strike Morrissey's name off the list. Again.--Kevin Maidment

Advantages: Amazing mix of Morrissey/Smiths songs sung brilliantly live Disadvantages: NONE! (unless you don't like live CDs!)
...to hear such a perfect live voice for a change, and the composition of the music is fantastic, the band rocks!
There is a great mix of songs, although as always I am slightly disappointed that some songs have been left out of the live mix, but in a perfect world he'd have sung everything, so I wont complain about that!
The album starts strongly, with the great "How soon is now" (known by most as the theme tune ... ...("You know I couldn't last") and there isn't a single filler in between!
This album ISNT just for die hard Morrissey, or The Smiths fans, a lot of people I have played this for haven't even HEARD of Morrissey (SACRELIGEOUS I KNOW!) but they have come away awed and inspired by this mans brilliant voice, the fantastic music, and the brilliant lyrics. The different styles are great too, slow songs, faster songs, political songs, ... more

The album starts strongly, with the great "How soon is now" (known by most as the theme tune from charmed - so I've been told!), it finishes strong ("You know I couldn't last") and there isn't a single filler in between!
The different styles are great too, slow songs, faster songs, political songs, and just fun songs!
Bigmouth Strikes Again is the best on the album, The Munich Air Disaster 1958 is my pick as the worst, BUT that's not to say it's a bad song.
The album is welcome refreshment to the ears and lovely!
Can this man do a single thing wrong - This boy things not!

Album Notes
Personnel: Morrissey (vocals); Boz Boorer (guitar, clarinet, congas, background vocals); Jesse Tobias (guitar); Mikey V. Farrell (trumpet, keyboards, percussion, background vocals); Gary Day (bass guitar); Deano Butterworth (drums). Recording information: Earl's Court, London, England (12/18/2004). Following his well-received 2004 comeback album, YOU ARE THE QUARRY, British rock icon Morrissey embarked on a lengthy tour. This live document presents the revered former Smiths singer performing at London's Earls Court in front of an adoring crowd of more than 17,000 people. Morrissey has no qualms about catering to Smiths fans, opening the set with a faithful rendition of "How Soon Is Now" Backed by a top-notch five-piece band that includes his longtime guitarist Boz Boorer, Moz runs through numerous album tracks and B-sides from QUARRY, along with Smiths classics and cover tunes. Morrissey's mid-tempo, reggae-tinged take on Patti Smith's "Redondo Beach" provides a nice change of pace in the energetic set, and later, a wonderfully dramatic version of the New York Dolls' "Subway Train" is paired in a medley with the rare track "Munich Air Disaster 1958." Throughout the concert, Moz is at his crooning best, proving that he can still work fans into a frenzy almost 20 years after his heyday with the Smiths.
