Hidden Gems Of 60's London
Review of Ultimate Action, The - Action (The) ('60s) by Modfather1963

Advantages: Great British Pop Soul
Disadvantages: Criminally Overlooked

...Paul Weller loves them and Phil Collins wanted to join them, but The Action remain one of the hidden gems of the 60's Mod scene. In fact, they were the REAL Mod favourites. Their choice of soul covers and well produced originals had Mods flocking from far and wide to see them. A small contingent of British acts were learning their craft from the originals, and combining the American sound with the sound of swining London. Georgie Fame, Zoot Money, The Animals, Them and Chris Farlowe all had their share of the limelight. Flower arranging classes with Mick and Keith
Review of Flowers [Remastered] - Rolling Stones (The) by JOHNV

Advantages: Some good tracks
Disadvantages: See text re comments on packaging, and also for likelihood of its being superseded

Baroque, I think critics labelled it at the time. If you remove the vocals, the backing track could have doubled quite neatly as a theme for a Tudor costume drama on TV. ‘Out Of Time’ is the song they produced and gave away to Chris Farlowe, who took his version to No. 1 in the summer of 1966. Here, the Stones replaced strings with what sounds like a xylophone. I feel Mick doesn’t really put heart and soul into this one; it comes across more like a music publisher’s demo, or else a rushed job. [Another version appeared on a long-since deleted 1975 compilation ‘Metamorphosis’, which has Mick singing to the backing track used by Chris... Read review
