Advantages: great atmosphere. Disadvantages: So many festivals, so little time!
all sorts of interesting people.
The best thing about folkfestivals (apart from the excellent music) is the atmosphere - it's all very friendly and welcoming. You can let your children run around and you can leave your tent without having to worry about it. Most of the performers will be around over the weekend, enjoying the rest of the festival, which means you can get to talk to them - it's nice having accesible artists, something you don't get at larger more mainstream events.
Here's a few names of festivals if you want to look them out - Whitby (runs for a week.) Bromyard (Weekend at the end of septmeber, Midlands.), Upton on Severn,(may bank holiday.) Padstow May day (Big event, well worth seeing.). Sidmouth (runs for a week, huge festival, international artists.), Cheltenham,(February, indoor camping.) Cambridge,(There's also ...

Advantages: Great bands, Varied programme Disadvantages: Too many rules
I didn't realise that you could review folkfestivals, God now i'm gonna review all of them!!! I am a northern lass and I visted Cambridgefolkfestival for the first time last year as a young fairly northern band had won the oppertunity to play there on the Radio Two young tradition awards. I wasn't happy with it as a festival because unlike the normal festivals I go to it was very impersonal and commerical. For example I do realise that food is expensive on site everywhere but i think just under £5 for a plate is absolutely crazy. Probably what i found most annoying was that you had to take a bus journey from the campsite to the festival site as the campsite on site was realtively small and you had to pay. And once you where on the other site you had to camp where you were told and not near your friends. I think with all this ...
Advantages: Good variety of bands Disadvantages: Prices within the festival
You don't have to be a fan of folk to like this festival - I've been going to it for a good 10 years now and will carry on going.
There is always a fantastic atmosphere at Cambridge and you are gaurenteed a good time, the festival goers are friendly, as are the staff.
And the music, though not all to everyones taste is always varied - from Joe strummer of the clash a few years ago to real roots music, as well as a few surprises (such as martin bennetts drum and base folk mix).
This coming year is the 40th and see's the return of many acts as well as those who have become more famous outside the folk or blues scene - like beth orten and the levellers.
However, normally sponsered by Bombardirs who supply the booze, It seems that this is not happening this year so it will be interesting to see the results.
The main campsite ...
