Live At The Checkerboard Lounge (Chicago 1979) [Digipak] - Buddy Guy

Advantages: Makes you realise just how cool Blues can be
Disadvantages: The sound quality though not bad might put some people used to 'polish' off

...I always forget just how much I like Blues until I start listening to it again, though it can be hard to find it really pure and passionate these days. I have a couple of other Buddy Guy albums; one early on, his recordings for Chess Records, where he was a session player and though his desire to do so, was never allowed to cut loose (a mistake the head, Marshall Chess, recognised late on in the sixties when the likes of Hendrix, Clapton et al were crashing to stardom). The other, Damn Right I Got The Blues, from the nineties never quite cuts it. So what a pleasure it was to stumble upon Live At The Checkerboard Lounge. Live At The Checkerboard Lounge is not quite a purist album but it's pretty close. ...**Introduction** On a recent edition of classic Later with Jools Holland I was transfixed by the energy and vigour of Buddy Guy's performance of His awesome Damn Right I've got the blues from his 1991 album of the same name, I was already a fan of his music but didnt know all that much about his music. After a few minutes looking around on amazon I bought three of his cds, Skin Deep, Damn right I've got the blues and of course this one Bring Em In from 2005. **Bring Em In** Bring 'Em In features collaborations with various artists, the artists who feature are Carlos Santana (guitar), Tracy Chapman (vocals), John Mayer (guitar), Anthony Hamilton (vocals), Robert Randolph (pedal steel), and Keith Richards (guitar). This means that I can't really compare it to the original, but Natasha Bedingfield has a sweet voice. 14.: Molly's Chambers - Kings Of Leon These guys have faded into obscurity a little bit, but this was their debut tune. It is pretty good in the live lounge although not acoustic. 15.: Frontin' - Cullum, Jamie This was actually released, so popular was it. Even Pharell loved it and he's notoriously sparse with praise for his tunes being covered. 16.: Living For The Weekend - Sugababes I didn't like the Hard Fi original since they overplayed it on the radio, particularly Radio 1, and this is a pretty drab cover really. 17.: I Believe In A Thing Called Love - Lemar I like Lemar.
