Advantages: James Brown before he went global Disadvantages: Very dated, none of his big hits
the best live album of all time, but for me parts of Rattle And Hum by U2 and Bob Marley's Live walk all over it.
Read on for the tracks.
THE TRACKS
--------------------
1. Introduction To JamesBrown
A very glitzy, showbiz opening as the compare introduces JamesBrown (and The Famous Flames, his then backing group). After announcing each song the band will play and Brown will sing, a cymbal and one note trumpet ring sound, followed by the hysterical cheers of the mostly female audience.
2. I''ll Go Crazy
Does some great vocal acrobatics before a mad rhythm and guitar part come in with the trumpets. The crowd, of course, approve. You can just see Brown toying with the brittle emotions of the teenage crowd as he goes through this mid-paced soul classic.
3. Try Me
Aside from Please Please Please this is probably best known pre ...
Advantages: Grace, buckley, sensational voice and lyrics, an extra song Disadvantages: Not as good as the anniversary edition, little new appeal
This expanded version of Grace has all the original Grace tracks and "Forget her". It was released 10 years after the original Grace was released, and is veiwed in negative light by Buckley fan's as it was basically put out after the far superiour legacy edition.
The opening track is Mojo pin a track co-written by Gary Lucas and Jeff Buckley from there "Songs to no-one 1991-1992" album (which I've reviewed on here). A song with only a lil change in the time from which it was originally written, and it keeps Buckleys' impressive vocals that go from slow soothingly amazing to chasing like a panther through the opening line of the chorus:
"Precious, precious silver and gold and pearls in oyster's flesh"
The song keeps the original lyrics that shoot images into your head right through, a great opening track to a very memorable album ...
Advantages: Characters Disadvantages: Tarantion isn't for everyone
While at times I have found Quentin Tarantino's nonlinear storytelling quite frustrating, I do tend to enjoy his movies. Jackie Brown, his third as a director, may not seem like the most stylistic of his works within the first sitting -- especially when it has Pulp Fiction to contend with -- but it's a film that will grow on you each time you watch it. The leisurely pace is one of the main reasons why I like it so much.
So, what is Jackie Brown about? Well, the title character (Pam Grier) works as a flight attendant for a small Mexican airline, who also smuggles illicit arms money into America for gun merchant Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). The FEDS soon bust Jackie and attempt to cut a deal with her to get to her boss. Feeling threatened by the law and Ordell, she hires an honest bail-bondsman, Max Cherry (Robert Forster ...
