This imaginatively titled release contains both footage of Rage Against the Machine in ... more
concert and uncensored versions of six of the group's videos. This isn't quite the value for money it might sound, since most of their videos are heavily reliant on concert footage anyway, and in a couple of cases it's difficult to tell one from the other. That said, the concert footage, taken from a few different RATM shows, is crisply shot and conveys enough of RATM's intoxicating (if one-dimensional) ferocity to be effective. A couple of the videos are also worth seeing, if only because they wouldn't have much hope of getting played on television: the clip for "Freedom", especially, is a clever and acute retelling of the story of American Indian Movement activist Leonard Peltier, shortly to complete his third decade of imprisonment. On the DVD:Rage Against the Machineon disc has a choice of stereo sound or Dolby Digital 5.1. English subtitles are available on most tracks. Special features include a track selector, contacts for organisations with which RATM are sympathetic, and a book list largely comprising indigestible polemical tracts of the sort often bought, but rarely read, by the earnest students who constitute Rage Against the Machine's core audience. However, given that most bands use any spare capacity on their DVDs to flog T-shirts, RATM deserve credit for trying something different. --Andrew Mueller

much like any live album, I would say to people, dont buy it untill youve heard the studio stuff, its not worth finding out about the songs for a live album, when you listen to a studio CD your listening to songs, when you listen to a live album, your hearing the band, in live, raw, gutfelt emotion. To buy this album with out hearing RATM would be stupid, but for fans, this CD captures Rage in their finest, sell out moment, with a belt full of hits and determination on their side, the 4 piece decimate the grand olympic, to a crowd over 5000 strong.
Before diving into your wallet to buy this album I would seriously reccomending tasting the sound of this original 4 piece rap/metal/rock band, or else you cant appreciate it. the band have always stood for political equality, human rights, and freedom of speach. their music intends to liberate the mind, and with an open mind the listener can hold something unique from really "listening" to their work, not just hearing. the four piece not only has lyrical genius on their side, it holds a strong guitar arsenal fronted by tom morrello, who to be honest bashes out riffs you wont hear in the UK top 40 this sunday, truely unique melodies capturing every aspect of their roots and where they come from.
if youve heard rage before, this is CRUCIAL listening, whether you love it or hate it, i cant reccomend this enough. ok, I will admit the sound quality isnt perfect, but why ask for studio quality recordings of a live performance, its just not a live album other wise haha.
if your willing to open yourself into the world of Rage in live concert, buy this album. if not, then hey, a closed mind leads to a closed world.

Album Notes
Rage Against The Machine: Zach de la Rocha (vocals); Tom Morello (guitar); Tim Commerford (bass); Brad Wilk (drums). Recorded live at Grand Olympic Stadium, Los Angeles, Californnia, on November 12 & 13, 2000. Before vocalist Chris Cornell (ex-Soundgarden) joined forces with the displaced instrumentalists of Rage Against the Machine to form Audioslave, RATM were among the most revered acts in heavy rock. The band has since faded into the annals of rock history, having left an indelible mark, and their unmistakable sound has often been copied but never duplicated. This live album (originally planned as a two-disc set with the cover album RENEGADES), harnesses the energy and raw emotion that was an RATM concert, centered around Zach de la Rocha's unabashed social commentary, via stylish and often poetic rhyming. On these 2000 performances, classic tracks were imbued with Zach's timely worldview, as "Killing in the Name" has its famous mantra morphed to "some of those that burn crosses/are the same that hold office," while the band precisely pummels its instruments. On "Freedom" (originally written to champion the cause of Leonard Peltier), de la Rocha chants "Free Mumia," in reference to his support of Mumia Abu-Jamal. LIVE is a final testament to the greatness of this groundbreaking group, having special significance as the final performances of RATM, recorded in the band's hometown of Los Angeles.
