Live At The Queen Elizabeth Hall - Robert Calvert

Advantages: Robert Johnsons music is showcased by great musicians.
Disadvantages: Not all Robert Johnsons songs were covered.

...I rate this excellent because the guitarist pays homage to his hero, in his style the musicianship is without fault throughout. It is nice to see the Blues played with such energy and obvious enjoyment by all concerned. The only thing that could be a negative is that not all of Robert Johnsons songs have been covered by Eric Clapton yet and subsequentely presented on an album. I hope that these will be done on a future album, as EC has covered most of his work. I have personally heard Eric Clapton play "Milk Cows Calf Blues" and "Little Queen of Spades" from this album at the Royal Albert Hall and at the Manchester Evening News Arena and the live versions were even better than on the cd. Advantages: Has a couple of good Hawkwind tracks unavailable elesewhere

...I consider this to be a "lost" Hawkwind album. Let me qualify that statement. The personnel on this album (apologies for using that word, but I'm used to calling long-playing recordings, albums, so there) are more or less Hawkwind. It was recorded by Robert Calvert (ex-frontman of Hawkwind,sadly now dead) as a side line. He gathered together the band and a few other friends to record this parody of Lockheed Inc and their deals with the post-war German airforce. Basically, it's a "comedy" album, albeit one with a heavy metal soundtrack. It's a mixture of "spoken word" and Hawkwind-type songs. But what does it sound like? Well it opens with a speech given by the Air Defence Minister in a cod German accent reviewing the sorry state of the once glorious Luftwaffe post World War II. "Ve must get up to date! ...This really is Queen at their best. Queen Live at Wembley Stadium is a 2 disc CD. The first Cd starts with One vision followed by Tie your mother down, In the Lap of the Gods, Seven seas of rhye, Tear it up, A kind of magic, Under pressure, another one bites the dust, who wants to live forever, I want to break free, Impromptu, Brighton rock solo and finishes with Now I'm here. Each of the songs lasts between 2.12 minutes and 6.20 minutes. The secomd CD offers a bit of variety starting with Love of my life followed by, Is this the world we created, baby I don't care, Hello Mary Lou, Tutti frutti, gimme some lovin', Bohemian Rhapsody, hammer to the fall, crazy little thing called love, Big spender, Radio Ga ga, we will rock you, friends will be friends, we are the champions and ends with God save the Queen.
