Arguably the Finest Live performance of modern times and an insight into the famous 60's music scene. Hendrix' true genius is on display all the way through this recording, as well as the Debut of his new line up of musicians - The Band of Gypsies (though he actually announces them as having the uber-hippie name: 'Gypsy, sun and rainbows')
The recordings aren’t the highest of quality, due to inadequate miking and set-up at the actual gig, however the sheer quality of jimi’s improvisation and musicianship definitely overshadows this. Notable performances would have to be Voodoo chile, which stretches for over thirteen minutes, the improvised ‘Jam back at the house’ and the instrumental ‘villanova junction’. There is also of course Jimi’s explosive rendition of ‘the star spangled banner’. The only tracks omitted from this version are the two songs from secondary guitarist Larry Lee. Having never heard these myself I couldn’t say if this is a good or a bad thing, although his solo on ‘voodoo chile’ seems somewhat tame compared to jimi’s! Aside from this everything has been captured, Including all jimi’s interaction with the crowd between songs.
If there is one negative I can pick out, I would have to be the track selection. Although all the songs are classic Hendrix, there are some missing that would have, in my opinion, given extra depth to the performance. Songs such as Little wing or Bold as Love could have represented the more mellow Experience music, also it is evident that Jimi wanted to try out some new material, but ends up playing the same old songs!
A definite purchase for any Hendrix fan, all of his mastery is on display here, burning solo's and incredible rhythm playing - also an essential purchase for any aspiring Guitarist who wants to hear the greatest.

Advantages: Lots of Great Songs and loads of information on Jimi. Disadvantages: The only live song is Star Spangled Banner, Which is a shame because Jimi's Superb live.
