Advantages: Entertaining and educational Disadvantages: Some bits are more interesting than others
It?s hard to define a book that incorporates etymology, history, culture, sociology and a huge amount of humour; the best I can do is to rather vaguely term it ?a complete success and a pleasure to read?. Literary Review puts it a little more succinctly as ?a triumph?, but I don?t think that even that high praise describes exactly how much information and entertainment Bill Bryson has managed to pack into this book. On the surface, it is an investigation of American English and how it?s been shaped through America?s relatively short history, but (as I hope you will see by reading this review) Made InAmerica is so much more than that...

Advantages: Fabulous acting and beautiful cinematography Disadvantages: possibly length
Although the premise of gay men in New York in the '80s dying in the AIDS epidemic may not seem the most original of plotlines, this HBO special manages to be hilariously funny, heartbreaking and always unusual.
Based on the play of the same name by Tony Kushner, the 6 hour programme focuses on the lives of Louis and Prior whose 4 year relationship ends when Prior discovers he has AIDS and Louis deserts him because he cannot cope with ill people. There are also a number of other important characters including Roy Cohn, a well known right-wing lawyer who will never publicly admit that he is gay and orders his doctor to call his AIDS cancer, and a mormon couple, Harper and Joe Pitt. Harper is a lonely housewife and prescription pill addict whilst Joe is a repressed homosexual who has to deal with the consequences of this through the film ...
Advantages: different, thoughtful, believable Disadvantages: depressing and pointless
Again i found myself with nothing to do and nothing on tv so i thought i would pop this dvd in and have a wee look! unfortunately i watched the whole thing! but a least that means i can write a review and hopefully sound like i know what im talking about!
InAmerica is set in, guess where? you got it, America! It starts off at the canadian border where a family of very dodgy looking irish folk are trying to get to america for a 'holiday'! of course the plan is to start a new life there and torment their neighbours!
