Living In Oblivion is a low budget independent film written and directed by Tom DiCillo and starring Steve Buscemi and Dermot Mulroney. Sure, these aren't A-list stars, but that lends itself to the story. If it was a film about the making of a film and you had George Clooney and Brad Pitt pretending to be small time actors you wouldn't believe it. That's why it was better to use less well known actors, it pulls you more into the story. The film takes place during one day on set of a low budget movie, and documents all the problems that the director, Nick (Buscemi), and everyone else can encounter, from equipment malfunctioning to office politics to actors forgetting their lines. It's almost like a documentary, it is very realistic and gives you the complete story as to what it's like trying to get a film made. There are a few ...

A long weekend in Amsterdam

Advantages: relaxed, friendly, english speaking, windmills and tulips
Disadvantages: cold in winter / spring, dangerous roads

Amsterdam In Britain few people have a real appreciation of the Dutch concept of gezellig. I can hear you saying: ?go on then tell us, what the hell is gezellig?? Well, unless you did already know and then, of course, well you?re very clever aren?t you? Well for those who didn?t know, I?ll tell you. Well, for starters I?ll tell you what it?s not. Basically it?s all the things that we do. Hence, it?s not working a 12-hour shift for your oppressive boss, or eating a Big Mac on your lap in the car and it?s certainly not rushing around shopping on a Saturday afternoon. Review of Amsterdam in general

A Short Break in Amsterdam

Advantages: Easy and quick to get there, an interesting and cosmopolitan city.
Disadvantages: It clearly isn't for all given the abudance of blantant sex and drugs.

Amsterdam. ~~~~~~~~~ Amsterdam, the capital city of Holland, is perfect for a short city break from anywhere in the UK and I visited for three nights in August 2004. Here's what I thought of this wonderful and cosmopolitan city. Getting There and Away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can fly to Amsterdam from all of the major UK airports for very little if you book well ahead of schedule. I flew with KLM from Newcastle for £129, which isn't cheap but was as good as I could get given that I went over the weekend and in the school holidays. Once you're off the plane and have your luggage, getting from the airport to the city is incredibly easy. Train tickets can be purchased from machines at the airport and the journey only takes about half an hour to Central Station. Literally everyone speaks English and all the signs ...
