Some are born great,as the saying goes ,others have greatness thrust upon them,and in the case of The Specials it seems not only did they achieve greatness with their debut album "Specials",but had even more greatness thrust upon them by an over expectant music press and ravenous fan base all eager for more of their punk/ska riotous rapture ,however in the spirit of true greatness and wanton defiance they delivered "More Specials" in the autumn of 1980,and in direct conflict to its title could well have been called "Less Specials " In the twelve months which had elapsed between their debut and this daring follow up the musical landscape had changed a great deal ,the fury of punk which gave rise to the groups foundations was now a fading memory as new sounds and movements splinterd into a varied buffet of sounds and movements ...

Someone Else's Heart

Advantages: A splendid and spectacular constitutional through the ambient edges of spacey afternoon Northern pop
Disadvantages: A bit too much filler: cutting out one or two tracks would make this very good album great.

Few artists use the electric guitar to more luxurious effect than The Durutti Column. Each of the delicately balanced tracks on "Someone Else's Party" is a soothing whirlpool of dynamics and ambience. This is to say nothing for its frequently sumptuous melodies. "Drinking Time" and the Lynch-esque "Spannish Lament" (The 'Column's interpretation of the beautiful accapella track by Rebbeca del Rio from the 2001 film "Mullholland Drive") really stand out for their guest vocal appearanes too. "Love is a Friend" and "Somewhere" can't get out of your head once they're in and crop up again into your consciousness even as you're all iPodded up walking past a building site. Live in Moscow

Advantages: many
Disadvantages: not so many

of the best of any of Heep's live material. Phil's synths are okay on the newer songs but on the old Hensley-era tracks, they just don't fit. His organ playing, however is superb, and his song Mr. Majestic is one of the best tracks Heep has done since Ken Hensley's departure. The addition of Heartache City also shows how good Equator could've been as this version rocks much harder than anything on the studio album. The weakest parts of the album include the second half of Bird Of Prey, where the band attempts to change the feel but lose the funkiness, some weak production (rectified somewhat in the remaster) and Phil's keyboard solo. Their performance of July Morning, however, more than makes up for it, and you can almost feel the Russians' excitement at finally hearing their "underground national anthem" being played live for the first time in ...
