Roxy Music reformed in 2001 after 18 years apart.
No new material but the tour was a triumphal success, proving that Roxy could still cut it in the 21st century.

ex-lovers whose former appeal, is now lost. However, asLive at the Apollodemonstrates, the 21st century return of Roxy Music was a much more pleasant surprise, for two reasons. First, Roxy Music did not commit the grotesque self-indulgence, common on occasions such as this, of subjecting their audiences to any new material: the set captured here, at London's Apollo Theatre in October 2001, is hit after hit, delivered with a palpable enthusiasm. Second, and most importantly, even 30 years after their foundation, and 25 years past their creative peak, Roxy Music's songs still sound like they're being phoned back from the future. On the DVD:Live at the Apollois presented in 16:9 picture ratio with three sound options: Dolby Digital 5.0 Surround, Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo, and DTS 5.0 Surround. Subtitles are available in English. There is also a 15-minute documentary containing interviews and some rehearsal footage. --Andrew Mueller

Roxy Music reformed in 2001 after 18 years apart. No new material but the tour was a triumphal success, proving that Roxy could still cut it in the 21st century. This double live album collates tracks from all across the tour, seemlessly edited together to create the ultimate Roxy concert. From the opening thrill of "Re-Make /Re-Model" to the closing sigh of "For Your Pleasure" this is simply one amazing track after another. Not only are the original songs effortlessly recreated on stage but there are numerous little embellishments that actually improve upon the originals. For example - Colin Good's beautiful piano into to "A Song For Europe", Chris Spedding's slide guitar in "Both Ends Burning", Lucy Wilkins' gorgeous voilin embellishments in "Tara" and many more. All the classics are present and correct - "Virginia Plain" is a breathless blast through their first single (and even uses the original VCS3 synth, donated by Eno for the tour), "Avalon" is just as beautiful as the original with Yannick Etienne guesting for the unique backing vocals. The core members of Roxy Music - Bryan Ferry on sublime vocals, Andy Mackay on heartbreaking sax and oboe, Phil Manzanera on killer guitar (check out the ending of "Ladytron"!) and the Great Paul Thompson on those rock solid drums - are bolstered by some solid extra musicians - the aforementioned Chris Spedding is superb. The lovely Lucy Wilkins fills both Eno and Eddie Jobson's shoes on synths and violin - her solo on "Out Of The Blue" is astonishing and Colin Good plays some rhapsodic piano. The sound quality is top notch, the performances are top notch and the songs are top notch. This is basically Roxy Music at their best and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Advantages: A Best of Roxy Music Live, with some stunning tracks Disadvantages: Too Short
This is the final album from RoxyMusic's first phase and features live cuts of tracks from their first five studio albums. The cover is classy as ever, featuring Ferry in a khaki safari shirt flirting on stage with e backing singers (Roxettes?), and the track selection is excellent given the limitations of the original vinyl presentation.
The opener is "Out of the Blue", a scorcher from the "Country Life" albume giving free reign to Manzanera's blistering guitar and Jobson's electric violin. This is followed by "Pyjamarama", the single released as a precursor to "For Your Pleasure", followed by the weirdly rhythmic "Bogus Man" which comes from the afformentioned album.
The pace slows a little with "Chance Meeting" but starts to pick up with "If There Is Something", both originally from their eponymous first album.
Then comes ...
Advantages: Excluding compilations, probably the most essential Roxy album Disadvantages: A couple of fillers
"Siren" was RoxyMusic's fifth album and the final one, excluding the live "Viva!", before their temporary separation which started in 1976. In retrospect it was probably the most varied, bridging the gap between their early eclecticism and artiness, and the languid (if not turgid) product which ironically brought them far greater sales in the early 80s. The success of the opening track as a single, "Love Is The Drug", led cynics to write it off as a 'Roxy go disco!' set, but they couldn't have been more wrong. While the album's second single, the often-overlooked "Both Ends Burning", stood halfway between the dance floor and the futurist rock'n'roll of "Virginia Plain", they also flirted cleverly with rock and pop on "Could It Happen To Me" and "Whirlwind", the latter giving Phil Manzanera his finest guitar moments on the album ...
Advantages: Contains almost all their best tracks Disadvantages: But not quite all
Not to put it too bluntly the release of ‘More Than This’ is 1995 had a smack of returning to well mined gold seam about it. There had already been a Greatest Hits album some years before and whilst people may have wanted it on a new medium CD or Minidisc why not just re-release the original album.
In repacking it they committed heresy by deleting 2 top Roxy tracks out went Pyjamarama and Do The Strand and for aficionados of the band this is unforgivable. Also deleted was Bryan Ferry’s version of the Wilson Pickett classic ‘In The Midnight Hour’ so perhaps there was some good judgement exercised after all. This had all the soul of a turn-up-at-the-studio and do the vocal routine.
What the album does have is the 2 stages of RoxyMusic and Bryan Ferry. The early seventies saw Roxy produce innovative ...
