General Info

Capdown are a skacore (heavy ska) band from Milton Keynes, Signed to independent labels throughout their career namely "Fierce Panda" they have a wide audience with their take on reggae, ska, punk and hardcore, occasionally going in a hip hop direction with their live dj "Cousin Cleotis" (a song of the same name is dedicated to him)
This album sees them take on their hometown in a live gig, with songs spanning from their entire back catalogue, all the classics are here. this is going to be immense.

Interesting stuff

Their lyrics are very political and their name is short for

"Capatilist downfall"

Album lineup

"Shakey" Jake Sims-Fielding
Robin "Boob" Goold
Keith Minter
Tim "Makkaz" Macdonald
Andrew "Eddie" Hunt
THIS IS A LIVE ALBUM

Track by Track

1. Kained but able - The song starts with the crowd screaming, the song then kicks straight in with no acknowledgement being given to the crowd, The vocals are lost in the mix, the drums are too powerful in the mix, Jakes voice seem's ruined from touring, BUT the idealogy and the heart of the song are still present, just a bit lost in the mix. the bass and guitar are just at the right level, The song stops halfway through its original length on the album and kicks straight into

2. Civil disobedients - There is no stop between this and the previous track they are put together as one and it works really well, Only one verse and the chorus of this track is played but the vocals have got a lot clearer throughout this song, the song goes straight into

3. Act your rage - the saxophone is out now and the sound quality is good but a bit quiet, this song sounds pretty much like it did on the studio version, the guitar riff is a really nice groove, the drums have been toned down a bit, the live producer/sound engineer must have had a tinker in between songs.

4. Mv4 - The only b side that features on this album, and perhaps the only one they play live, I am not to keen on this song, BUT it does sound simular to the studio version ruined only by the over the top guitaring

5. Strength in numbers - This is a favourite of mine, i love the saxophone intro and im pretty impressed Jake pulls it off live as he has lead vocal duties aswell, his timing is on top form tonite, a real highlight of the album, the sound engineer has pulled his finger out now and everything seems to be at the right level.

6. Cousin Cleotis - A tribute to the dj of the same stagename, the saxophone intro is really intense on the studio version and none of the intensity is lost her tonight, They have pulled this song off with a a*

7. Headstrong - I was never to keen on this song BUT i enjoy it here, maybe its that you can hear the crowd ever so slightly or maybe the essence of the song is captured live, but i like it now, It's a good mid point chill out.

8. An a-political stand of reasons - I have never heard the studio version of this song so cannot comment on the difference i can just say that i am going to find a copy of the original after listening to this version, all the instruments are still tight, Jakes voice is becoming slightly gnarly now, Think someone forgot to drink there honey and tea :-p

9. B*tch*s and nikey shoes - This is their attempt at hip hop for tonite and as always they pull it off better than most of todays so called "hip hop" acts, this is a good fun song and is only improved live.

10. Strictly business - "looking fly son" - After a little chat with the crowd and a tuneup its back to business, i had never heard this song either, it is really hard and heavy, and the mix has gone downhill again with each individual instrument drowning out the other, not the best but could be worse.

11. Ska wars - This song is why half the people are in the crowd tonight, this is capdown's one hit wonder and only commercial success, the sound is not as tight as mid set but not as bad as the beggining. They pull it off, and it sounds awesome. The crowd is probably going mental right about now.

Conclusion

Up until 2010 seeing Capdown was nota possibilty after their 2007 split, and this album would have been a ideal substitute, Buy this if you don't plan to see them live BUT speaking from experience they are a band that NEEDS to be seen live, and they are top lads.

9/10
