Advantages: Good food for thought and quite inspiring Disadvantages: Calls for a leap of faith..
The Tibetan Art of Living is not usually a book I would read, but I picked it up in a New Age shop on a recent visit to Glastonbury. After skimming through it a few paragraphs intrigued me.
I tend to be a rather sceptical person, but I keep open minded about subjects preferring to EXPERIENCE truth rather than conceptualise it. Before going any further in the review of this book, let me try to explain?
I see an experience as something that is absolute truth - you know it because you experience it. On the hand, a belief is something that may or may not be true. I see it like this? Books generate beliefs, and truth will either be realised or not realised by what you experience after digesting the content of a book and "looking" for yourself.
What follows are the feelings that were generated in me as a result of reading this ...
Advantages: Alto saxophony at it's best. Disadvantages: Not to everyones taste.
~~~ArtPepper~~~
Continuing on a theme of Saxophone players that I have been reviewing and their albums, it is time for ArtPepper, well specifically the ArtPepper Quartet.
Whilst an all time great Alto Saxophonist, it is true to say that Art never got the exposure or accolades that people like Charlie Parker got. Similarily to Parker, he started playing in the 40's, he also had a heroin addiction, though unlike Parker, Pepperlived until he was nearly 60, still no great age.
He was a 'tight' player that seemed to appreciate precision and getting his notes crisp and clean. This was a criticism of him as he was seen to be 'detached' from his sax, not putting enough heart in, according some reviews I have read, personally I think his precision was all about heart.
This particular album was released in 2004, some 22 years after ...
Having been introduced to the Legend of Zelda when first playing "Ocarina of Time" on the N64 i found myself compelled to continue the quest by purchasing the latest installment of the Zelda franchise.
A lot had been written prior to release about the cel-shaded graphics which had been introduced this time out, giving Link and his universe a more cartoonish feel. Many felt that this would be a bad mistake and that it would be less of a game as a result. Having taken the time to play this game i can reassure those in doubt that this is not the case. The added bonus of links cartoon face, is the ability to express emotion far more easily than has been possible in previous incarnations... The game truly has the look and feel of an animated adventure, with excellent sounds and the familiar Zelda tunes in the background you feel at home ...
