Because of the new System of the German Ciao, I want to see, how it is here in the UK. They don't pay very much anymore for my opinions. About me: I like listening to music like Metallica, Limp Bizkit or The Offspring and I like doing different things ...

(Please excuse me for my bad English). Some fans of Metallica think, all the Albums after "Black Album" are not good, because Metallica changed its style after the break of five years. Ok, this is right, but the music got better than it ever was, as I think. But well, "Garage, Inc." and "S&M" were nothing more than making money. On "Garage, Inc.", there were only old tracks and tracks, Metallica didn't write theirself and on "S&M", there were only two new tracks. Although, I can say, the sound of both of them was not too bad. Before "Garage, Inc." there was "Reload", an Album, I personally don't like so much..
But when I bought the album "Load" about for years ago, I liked it from the beginning. At this time, I didn't knew Metallica very much, but the Sound did more than convince me.
So, I will write all the tracks on the album with a short comment and a judgement. The tracks marked with an "x"
are tracks, I also recorded as a Mp3.
It starts to rock with "Ain't My Bitch". I'm sure, oldschool- fans may like this track, too. Like on every album from Metallica, the first one is one of the hardest on the whole Album. This track really rocks.(*****) x
Then "2 x 4" follows. Sounds a bit like "Ain't My Bitch", but it's not this hard and it doesn't sound so good. It's more like a copy. (***) x
As the third song, there is "The House Jack Built". At this track you HAVE to listen, no matter if you understand the meaning of the lyrics (or even the lyrics when you are from Germany). In things of hardness it is good, without sounding like trash. No song on the album sounds like trash but one. (*****) x
"Until It Sleeps" is the next song. This track is also on "S&M", so it is one of the most succesfull tracks on the album. I like it very much, too. Like the most tracks on the album, it's not very hard, too. (****) x
"King Nothing" is phat, too and is one of the harder on the album. Even the beginning of the track is cool. (*****) x
Then "Hero Of The Day". This track is on "S&M", too and I think, that it is one of the best on the album "Load". It starts very slow and this changes with relatively hard parts. (*****) x
With over eight minutes is "Bleeding Me" the second longest track on the album. Well, it's not very hard, more soft, insted the sound is very, well played, really professional like all the tracks on"Load". It's on "S&M", too. (*****) x
"Cure", has a bit a sarkastic text. Although it's not bad, it's more the average. (****) x
"Poor Twisted Me" is clearly the worst track on the album. It's more slow and hard like "Sad But True", but it does never reach its quality. Additional, Hetfields voice is very strange on this track. (**)
"Wasting My Hate" is with "Ain't My Bitch" the hardest track, it's even harder. The track is finest Speed- Metal. It rocks from the beginning till the end. (*****) x
"Mama Said" must be the most popular track on the album. This is a very well played track, although I don't like countrymusic so much, but I'll judge this track like it's played and not how I think about it. (****) x
"Thorn Within" is like "Cure". It's not bad, but not very good, too, it's more the average. And it's not so good like "Cure". (***)
"Ronnie" is how I think a mix betwenn country and metal. The text is easy to understand, that means that people wihout much lyric experience can understand the content. It's about a desperado, who comes to a small town on the land, because he is wandering around without a special way. There, he shots everything down, he doesn't like (as far as I understood the text.). (****) x
"The Outlaw Torn" is the last and the longest track on the album. It's 9:37 long and it's like sloe Metal. What I don't like is the very long guitar- solo, which is played professional, but it's about five minutes long and not a single word is sung. The other parts are very good. This track is on "S&M", too. (****) x
As you can see, I like very much of the songs and this makes me think, that five stars are not an unfair judgement. I think, it's one of the best albums, which are in my CD- collection. I think, it convinces because of the style which made "One" or "Sanitarium" so popular.
But I can understand, too, that much fans of Metallica don't like it anymore, because the style is so different. But this is the way, I heard Metallica the first time and because of that, I like it so much. Now, the style has changed again with "I Disappear", but I like it, too. Must be Metallica, they just don't make bad music.
The booklet is not very helpfull, there are only a few parts of the lyrics and a lot of pictures. But on the front of it, you can see sperm mixed with cow blood. Ain't no joke, really.

I totally agree with you- the style has changed, but the music is still good- if not better! At the end of the day the style of music has to change to avoid becoming repetitive nonsense! Great Review! xEmx

Advantages: Hmmm...If you like grunge, country or pop punk, there may be one or two good songs on it. Disadvantages: Ermm...how long have you got? Turgid, MTV friendly pop rubbish.
