This...... is the current American Idol Winner. David Cook is the American Idol that nearly never was. He actually was not initially going to try out for the television talent show, he was at the auditions to support his brother but, after some pushing from his brother, decided to audition too. A good decision, because he became the winner of the seventh season of American Idol in 2008. David Cook is classified as a Rock, singer-songwriter. His sound is definitely very rocky, but in my opinion quite soft rock. He has a very deep, raspy voice that lends itself very well to this type of music. What I really like about him is that he can actually play an instrument, unlike a lot of the new pop stars out there today who are just manufactured. THE FORGOTTEN SOLDIER.

Advantages: A detailed personal account, extremely readable.
Disadvantages: Minor vagueness in parts, Very graphic in its bloody nature.

I tend to avoid military biographies and doubly so if they cannot be corroborated for authenticity. "The Forgotten Soldier" is one of these books. First published in 1967 in France and then translated into English in 1971. "The Forgotten Soldier" has been heralded as a unique insight into a German soldier's experiences and horror of serving in the German army on the Russian front. Guy Sajer is a 16 year-old half French half German youth living in Alsace at the outbreak of war. He was recruited into the German army in 1942; he joined up due to his admiration for the German army who had marched into France in 1940. Having never lived in Germany and only having a basic grasp of the German language didn't deter him from his ambition. You won't be Lonely with this!

Advantages: Nicely written, good characters
Disadvantages: Slow start

Rachel is a bit horrified when she finds out that her Aunt Dot has died and left her entire estate to her. Dot's legacy is a boarding kennels in the middle of nowhere, a huge house and a lot of debts to go with it, and Rachel doesn't much fancy moving and becoming at one with the dogs and their owners. However, when she arrives, she finds the people are nice folk with hearts of gold, and that the dogs quickly grow on you as well. Rachel soon begins to make friends with George, the dishy local vet; Zoe, a single mum of 2 young boys struggling to cope with them and new puppy Toffee; Natalie and Johhny, a couple who subsitute a baby for a dog for the time-being whilst they hide a painful secret, and of course Megan who helped Dot run the whole show.
