And now for your reading pleasure, a band that I can be certain that 99% of you will not have heard of?Augustana?with their debut album ?All The Stars And Boulevards.?
Released on Epic Records in 2005, this quartet are, by first listen anyway, the nearest style the Americans have to a ?Brit-pop? band?but saying that means they are nothing like Oasis/Blur/Suede/Pulp/Supergrass etc. Instead they represent a slightly pessimistic view on life?the fact that Americans only sing about the bad times shows they are oh so miserable people!!
Opening track ?Mayfield? shares a sound not to far away from the likes of Snow Patrol, Train or Mercury Rev from this side of the ?pond? if you will ? there you go, you?ll feel as if you?ve known this band for years now! A loud, vibrant voice from vocalist Dan Layus on top of progressive rock music, that ...
Advantages: a quality entertainer Disadvantages: nothing
Gerry & the Pacemakers are still touring and packing out venues as they finish their tour of the UK.
I had the privilege of going to a concert by them called an "evening to remember "on ( 2/2/01) at the Whitby pavillion.
This venue might only be classed as a small hall but nearly a thousand people packed the pavillion to witness what I can only describe as a fantastic performance by the group.
The pacemakers themselves are not the originals from the sixties but that did not matter a jot. The main man himself Gerry Mardsen singer and songwriter is very much an original and he's still got that golden voice he's always had.
The other pacemakers had according to Gerry all gone they're seperate ways with Marsden's brother now running a driving school and another of the originals now living in Australia where the band are heading very ...
Advantages: Appropriate atmosphere, great acting, a few quirky moments. Disadvantages: Depressing.
dealing, his uncle, who is the real culprit, threatens him, his father sinks into depression when the company he owns is seized, the basketball team Jim is coaching on behalf of his comatose brother continues on its losing streak and Anika's son, Ben, becomes attached to him? all of these things, combined, throw Jim into a state of panic, and before too long he finds himself all too eager to turn his back on everyone who needs him and to run.
'Lonesome Jim' is possibly the quirkiest movie I have seen in a long time? it even beats 'Juno' as quirkiness goes! However, this doesn't mean it's a great movie, it simply means that it's interesting and 'watchable'.
The problem with this movie is that the main character is so downright miserable and depressed that his mood colours the entire movie. The atmosphere is thick and heavy, and so ...

Recording information: Carriage Studios, Stamford, CT (03/1989-09/1989). Photographer: Carol Friedman. The 1989 Gerry Mulligan Quartet (with pianist Bill Charlap, bassist Dean Johnson, and drummer Richie De Rosa) is well featured on this enjoyable set, performing "Splendor in the Grass" and nine recent Gerry Mulligan compositions including "Lonesome Boulevard," "The Flying Scotsman," and "Good Neighbor Thelonious." Baritonist Mulligan deserves great credit for the consistency of his recordings over the previous 40 years. This CD is easily recommended, for the leader remained very much in his prime.
