With Peter Svensson's quirky, driving, ultra-modern pop backing Nina Persson's icy dissections of doomed relationships, it was a Love Album informed more by Bret Easton Ellis than any high romance. So catchy, so cool and so incredibly bleak--exceptional, intelligent pop in the tradition of Soft Cell and ABC.Long Gone Before Daylight, then, comes as something of a shock when the opening "Communication" and "You're the Storm"--both lush and beautiful pop--find Persson struggling for love then, come the Doors-like "And Then You Kissed Me", actually finding it. Real love, too--not the fascinatingly twisted variety of before. It's a terrible shame, for love reduces the Cardigans to the level of other musicians. But then, unpredictable devils, they hit you with "Couldn't Care Less", as Persson loses it all again, in the following "Please Sisters" begging for advice, succour, anything. And now you realise; it's a pop-rock opera, the tale of one heart's tortuous and tortured journey through the mill. And it's superb. On their fifth album, the Cardigans continue down musical paths few would've predicted based on the bubbly, organ-driven lounge-pop of their first three releases, EMMERDALE, LIFE, and FIRST BAND ON THE MOON. LONG GONE BEFORE DAYLIGHT sees the Swedish ensemble emerging from the rebellious phase of 1998's icy GRAN TURISMO and forging ahead to address love, longing, and loss in more subtle ways. The leadoff track, "Communication," finds songwriter Peter Svensson and vocalist/lyricist Nina Persson giving a nod to the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses." Tinges of American country twang also come through on "Live and Learn," and the single "For What It's Worth." Persson's soft-yet-resolute alto shows off its full force on ballads "Couldn't Care Less," and "Lead Me Into the Night." The songs of DAYLIGHT forgo immediate hooks in order to give their compositions more space to breathe and convey mood, revealing them to have more in common with Persson's 2001 solo project, A Camp (produced by Sparklehorse's Mark Linkous), than previous Cardigans releases. The effect is distinctly cinematic, and patient listeners will be richly rewarded.

**BRIEF PLOT**
With a fleeing gang of jewel thieves and a couple of trucks filled with some dodgy chemical on the way to be illegally dumped it is not longbefore the two meet in the middle of a New Jersey tunnel, leading to one hell of a nightmare for everyone driving through the tunnel at the time.

...that one!), I've listened to it a few times and I didn't get bored with listening to that album, as the tracks have more variety, and that CD has the fabulous 'Love Fool' on which is definatly one of my favourite songs by The Cardigans.
I would give this release a 8.5/10.

...The last Album First Band Of the Moon was one of my favourite ones. So I didn’t hesitate to buy the latest Album Gran Turismo by The Cardigans.
*the band
The swedish band started with their career in the year 1992 in Jonkopping, Sweden. After the five members of the band Lars-Olof Johansson, Bengt Lagerberg, Magnus Sveningson, Peter Svensson and singer Nina Persson went to Malmö they get their first contract and produced the album Emmerdale. One of their most famous songs is the song Lovefool from the Album First Band of the moon – most of you will know this song as part of the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack. The Cardigans also took part in a short scene of Beverly Hills 90210.

In my opinion this Album is a very special one. On one side you will listen to very slow and emotional songs on the other side...
