What a fantastic read!!!!!!
I must say that I have always found Rose Tremain an excellent writer, and I think that this is her best book yet, quite a change from her more normal historical novel.
The RoadHome is full of her usual wonderful elegant prose and imagery and is both funny and tragic.
It tells the sad and yet optimistic, story of Lev, a 42 year old widower who leaves behind his young daughter, Maya, with her grandmother in Eastern Europe (just where we never do find out) and makes the journey to London in search of a job that would let him send money home to make a better life for them.
Lev is a likeable and hardworking man who quickly fits in to his new surroundings, but ...
Advantages: Emotional; powerful; good to listen to when down Disadvantages: Some monotonous backdrops; some depressing songs
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
I usually listen to what could be classed as ?pop? music, but the power and sentiment of ?Someday? by Nickleback really hit me hard and made me rethink my ideals. The song immediately gripped me from the very first few words ? I was amazed at the guitar and vocal ability that was initially presented and just had to keep listening.
The following day I felt that I just had to buy Nickleback?s latest album, which I was pleased to find included ?Someday?. I ordered it for just under £8 from the internet with free delivery included ? a bargain even by my standards! The album arrived the next day and I immediately unwrapped it to see what my newly found musical obsession had in store for me. I was not disappointed.
I?ll agree with you ? the album is now quite old and I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment ...
Advantages: more good tracks from nickelback Disadvantages: a couple of weaker tracks
Are you a nickelback fan? I am....I saw them last December at Wembley and they were superb. After listening to 'Silver Side Up' over and over and seeing their fab live performace I have been eagerly awaiting their new album. At last 'The LongRoad' has been released.........
FLAT ON THE FLOOR
The opening track on the new nickelback album is very upbeat and fast track. This is what I would call a 'typical' nickelback track. Lots of loud guitar and fast track which Chad Kroegers voice fits perfect too. Like I said before a quick track at only 2 mins 2 seconds long.
DO THIS ANYMORE
I really like this track though it took me a couple of times to listen to it to come around to it. It is one which reminds me of 'too bad' from the previous album.
SOMEDAY
The first single of the album....I abosolutely love this track ...

Album Notes
John Fogerty: John Fogerty (vocals); Billy Burnette, Bob Britt (guitar); Matt Nolen (keyboards); George Hawkins Jr. (bass guitar); John Molo (drums). Recording information: Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, California (2006). A solid argument could be made that THE LONG ROAD HOME is John Fogerty's definitive post-Creedence statement. The majority of the songs on this double-disc live set are in fact songs written while Fogerty was in CCR, but his finest solo work doesn't get short shrift either, as he runs through later-period songs such as "Blue Moon Nights" and "Rambunctious Boy" from 2004's BLUE MOON SWAMP and the hits "The Old Man Down the Road" and "Centerfield." The exuberance and fire that Fogerty puts into these songs, however, blurs the line between past and present, bandleader and solo artist, and shows a brilliant rock-and-roller at his most smokin'. Keep on chooglin' indeed.
