the best part of 30 years--ignoring the piecemeal (and some might say mean-spirited) sprinkle of new songs on 1994'sHell Freezes Over--that doesn't crave every last minute of this epic stack of original work. But then there also hasn't been a double album in history that couldn't have been improved by shedding at least some of its load and tucking its jeans into its cowboy boots.Long Road out of Edenis no exception to that rule. Much of the first disc passes by in a shuffle of fairly standard, although admittedly enjoyable, mid-beat country-rock (see especially "Busy Being Fabulous") and the appearance of a drum machine on the second hints at a frankly unnecessary dalliance with 80s MOR pop--and one they'd already avoided by splitting the first time around. It's music made by professionals, but lacking the classic, cinematic poise that has made Hotel California a mainstay on the best albums of all-time lists. But then the ambitious reach of the wind-swept, politically charged 10-minute title track really pulls things back, while the pleasant calypso drift of "It's Your World Now", near a cappella melody waterfall of "No More Walks in the Wood" and moody blues swagger of "Somebody" prove there's still just enough wind beneath these wings.--James Berry

The title track of long road out of eden is an epic as you would expect of the eagles. This ... ...The album is worth purchasing for this track but alot of the other tracks seem to be there as filler. The track no more walks in the wood is a disappointment and not the ideal starter to the album the title track should have been used to start the album off in my opinion.
The dedicated eagles fan should get the album just to complete their collection but people unfamilar with their work may be better getting an album featuring their most famous ...

Advantages: A double album of world class songs Disadvantages: Seemingly none
...second track, How Long.
How Long has become my favourite song over the past year. It was written with JD Souther (yes, Eagles fans- get excited) and reminds you that the Eagles have such a perfected style of laid-back suave that you just don't find anywhere else. I'd honestly wake up to this song everyday for the rest of my life.
These are just the first two songs- but the album follows on in the traditional veteran high-quality style that is becoming ... ...is definatley a song worth looking out for. The thinking behind it sounds like the thinking between Hotel California, and it's very powerful to listen to. Personally I'm not a fan of Hole In The World, Last Good Time in Town or Fast Company. This is not because they are bad songs however. They are unlucky enough to be good songs on an excellent album.
I would strongly recommend this album to anyone, especially Eagles fans and those who're tired ...

Album Notes: Six years in production, 'Long Road Out Of Eden' is the seventh studio album from country rock mainstays The Eagles. Recording began a full 22 years after the release of their previous opus with a tweaked line-up (following Don Felder's dismissal in 2001) and some instrumental augmentations. Lead single 'How Long' adheres to the musical templates the band is known for, but album tracks such as the ten-minute epic title track showcase the wider scope of earlier successes such as 'Hotel California'. Eagerly anticipated by their ageing fanbase, 'Long Road Out Of Eden' is a worthy continuation of the Eagles story.
