Ok, let me start! Today I want to talk about another Music Group, what is now for a long time one of my favorites. This Group have the name “Roxette” and I want to talk about the album “Look sharp!” This album made Roxette end of the Eighties very famous and I think this is a good reason for me to bring you this nice music more near.

It was 1986 as Marie Federikson and Per Gessle come together as Roxette. The first album came in 1986 and it had the name “Pearls of passion” It was international very unsuccessfully, but in Sweden they received it for platinum. 1988 came “Look Sharp!” and it was also only in Sweden published and also it was very successfully. International to it was unsuccessfully but the luck was, an exchange student from the USA was at this time in Sweden. He bring this album home to his country and give it to a Radio station.
It plays it several radio stations, and those listeners are inspired. Thus Roxette in the USA admits, without also only a Song to have published there.
1989 become in a lightning action “The Look” also in the USA publishes and hits like a bomb. In March it stands on Number one in the Charts of America and another 24 Countries. In the October of the same year Roxette was again Number one in America with the Song “Listen to your heart”.
World-wide Roxette sold more than eight a million times this album.

So, now I talked enough and so it is the best time to show you the songs from “Look Sharp!”
1. The Look! ( 3:56 ) ******************
We begin nevertheless directly with the song, which help Roxette to the international break-through. The driving and nevertheless so simple sound of skirt remains always hanging into your ear and wants you again to never release! (man, I am proud that this sentence occurred to me! * laugh *)
Because this song is the number one of the album it make me hungry for more! I am very exited what come next.
2. Dressed for Success ( 4:11 ) **************************
With much good mood it continues. Also this song developed to a correct ear worm and is madly for the along-sung suitable. I would say, The song is today still suitable for each party.
3. Sleeping Single ( 4:39 ) ***********************
This song is relatively calm and Marie sings here completely alone. Which only can be of advantage, because I find her voice simply fascinating. Thus this Song became a very beautiful Ballad, which provides for something relaxation.
4. Paint ( 3:29 ) **************
In contrast to the last song Per sing here completely alone. The song is nevertheless fascinating, because in the Refrain Marie sing a little bit and the song go under the skin.
5. Dance Away ( 3:25 ) ********************
I would say, The song is mixed rather. It is not a Ballad and it is not so fast like the first two songs. Rather a mixture from both, succeeded very well. Therefore this Song is rather suitable, in order to let it run in the background. But Marie sings as usual very nice.
6. Cry ( 5:05 ) ************
If we are already about to talk about Background music, so let me continue here. It is a very beautiful Ballad and it make me dreaming.
7. Chances ( 4:07 ) *****************
Wake up! Here it does not continue at all more calmly. The Song is again from the faster sort and is naturally very nice because of the beautiful voice from Marie. For me one of the most beautiful songs on this album
8. Dangerous ( 3:48 ) ******************
It quickly continues. This song might probably rather admits to be, since it became also quite successful. It give you a very good mood and here you can dance and sing. It is just a nice song to have much fun.
9. Half a Woman, Half a Shadow ( 3:33 ) **********************************
This song does not fit the remaining Songs so completely somehow. Which it is not to be called however now that it is bad. Marie sings as always good, otherwise the song is not anything special.
10. View from a Hill ( 3:59 ) ***********************
This song begins relatively calmly and becomes then ever more faster. The Refrain goes fast into the ear, what makes this song again and again audible. Marie gives like always everything and her singing is just nice.
11. Shadow of a Doubt ( 4:13 ) *************************
Also this Song is very quick and is also again shaped of the fascinating voice from Marie. The song sounds however already somehow dark, which makes it unusual, but beautiful. Nevertheless one can enjoy it madly and is worth an experience.
12. Listen to your heart ( 5.27 ) *************************
In the end there is again an absolute classical song from Roxette. Listen to your heart becomes to a world wide hit and I find it just a very beautiful Ballad. It goes very fast under you skin and you have to enjoy. This sound you never can forget.
My opinion +++++++++
The fact that this album of Roxette became so successful is for me not a miracle. 15 years after whose publication one can sound oneself this music still, without one can determine age features. This sound has for me evenly which timeless, which makes it again and again beautiful.
Even if I think Roxette never became so famous without the nice voice from Marie. Much hits from Roxette are became only famous because of Marie. The voice from Per to is not bad, but when Marie start to sing is just nice. It was only much luck for Per to have Marie, because without her, he is nothing.
Nevertheless, Roxette wrote and to have this success also fully and completely earned this album with history.
Result +++++ I would say, this music am also today still recommendable and I assign here the full score. Even if the album has a weaker song, the remainder is absolute Top.

Sleeping Single

This song brings out Marie’s voice much more than the first two. She is singing in a wonderfully seductive manner “Sleeping single… I will wait for you” Absolutely beautifully done. One of my favourites of all time. Marie has just sung along so naturally next is a song for Per
Paint

Tempo gets ... ...song. Quite a rocky verse and then Marie does the chorus with her spellbinding voice. An angelic combination together. They also harmonise superbly during this song. Onwards we go…….
Dance Away

This is the weakest track on the album. Doesn’t know what it is really. If there is a space filler on the album this is it. A relatively slow song which tries to be pop, unfortunately it doesn’t work so straight on to..

Advantages: Some really good tracks Disadvantages: Few album fillers, dated sound
This was Roxette's first album release in the UK. This was made in the late 1980's, and is typical of the pop music that was popular around that time.
As with all Roxette albums, there's a mixture of different styles of music, from almost rocky tracks to ballads.
I liked the design of the sleeve, it's a mock up newspaper cutting, with various Roxette related stories on it, and some artful black and white photos of the band.
As for the album, it ... ...Look' which introduces us to the music Roxette does best, guitar pop. This is a Per track, and his voice creates an eerie intro for this album.
'Dressed for success' is next, a poppy singalong feel good track, which follows on from the first track. It was their second single release, and is still widely used on commercials today.
'Sleeping single' is one of my least Favourite tracks, it has an almost jazz feel to it, but, on the whole has uninteresting ...

Look sharp! is Roxettes 2nd album.It is one of the Swedish duos good albums.It was released in 1988.
The 12 songs are: The Look, Dressed For Success, Sleeping Single, Paint, Dance Away, Cry, Chances, Dangerous, Half A Woman, Half A Shadow, View From The Hill, Shadow of a Doubt, and Listen To Your Heart.
Some of the duos best songs are on this album, which in my opinion should have been the first one.These are: The Look, Dressed for Success, Dangerous, ...

I wasn't actually aware that this album was available in the UK. I actually downloaded it a couple of years ago, and only recently discovered in when looking through a pile of old Cd's.
This was the first album from Roxette, released in Sweden in 1986, and was unreleased in the UK, as the band only became known worldwide with the release of LookSharp.
This album is a perfect reflection of the music that was popular around the time of its release, lots of synthesizers and there are a few guitars peeking through occasionally, but it's very different to some of their later more guitar orientated albums.
There’s a chance is you’ve heard some of Roxette’s other albums, some of these tracks will be familiar. ‘Soul deep’ also appeared on the ‘Joyride’ album and ‘So far away’ ...
