Lost Horizons is an amazing collection of EPs put together to create this superb album by the the genious group that is Lemon Jelly.
It's their second album after KY and released way back 2002. It's a mix of instrumental sounds and samples designed to give you a relaxed and mellow easy listening experience. It has an organic feel, along with the album cover and delivers some outstanding and experimental music that will lift you into new horizons.
Tracklisting
1 - Elements
2 - Space Walk
3 - Ramblin' Man
4 - Return to Patagonia
5 - Nice Weather for Ducks
6 - Experiment No. 6
7 - Closer
8 - The Curse of Ka'Zar Bonus track - Pushy
Elements opens the album and really gives you a good feel of what the album is going to be like. It features some good vocals by John Standing and a real sense of well being about it. This is a really good summer track for when you're out in the park.
Space Walk features a sample of Michael O'Connor and is a conversation between a spaceman and Control talking about his space-walk. It has some beautiful piano playing and guitar in it with a good chilled dance beat to accompany.
Ramblin' Man has a powerful start and you think may be quite a big track then the accoustic guitar sets in and a sample of John Standing pops in talking about rambling. It has some nice flute playing by Damien Hand and gives a real sense of being outside in the woods kicking up the leaves.
Return to Patagonia has quite an urgent feel to it which I'm guessing is the direction Lemon Jelly wanted it. It gives the impression you're on a train journey. It features speech by Melanie McFadyean and Rory Blair. You have to bare with this one as the track is about eight minutes long and it doesn't really kick in until about half way through. Quite a powerful choir kick in as well in the last few minutes of the track, a welcome surprise!
Nice Weather for Ducks! (tee-hee!) Now this is my favorite track not only on this album but of all Lemon Jelly's work. It has some brilliant bass playing by Guy Pratt, some ducks splashing around and a vocal sample by Enn Reital about how all the ducks are swimming in the water! Brilliant!
Experiment No. 6 is a bit weird. Not my favorite track but basically is a musical interpretation of a medical exam by Doctor William Brook.
Closer brings the album back up a notch with that feel-good factor again. At just over seven minutes long it takes a while to kick in but Damian Hand is awesome on the flute again. I'd say this is a bit of a driving track as it has that repetitive motion that Return to Patagonia had.
The Curse of Ka'Zar has a real good beat to it and vocals to match by Andy Kane and Rita Campbell. Some awesome drumming and mellowed out feel makes this an excellent track to chill out too.
Overall the album is genious and Nick Franglen and Fred Deakin have done an outstanding job producing this. The mix of samples along with its drifting, over the hills feel to it, makes it top of my list on chill-out albums. As I said earlier it's perfect if you're out in the park or in the garden.
Thanks for reading!

I have never heard of anyone named Lemon Jelly, I find the names of new groups so unusual theses days, a very good review but sadly not my cup of tea I am afraid, Frank
