...This CD is a brilliant stepping-stone into the Jazz world. The instantly recognisable voice of Louis Armstrong is familiarly heart warming, Louis stood next to the sensational Ella, make a fine pair. The strong vocals are supported by the excellent band, with great instrumental links keeping the listener on the edge of their seat. The intensity and coarseness of Mr. Armstrong's voice compels the audience to wish for the next scat solo or the next parade of incredible human talent that is Louis. Of course the same can be said of the sassy Ms. Fitzgerald who can sustain these high levels of aptitude. I recommend this CD to any budding music fan who wishes to broaden their Musical horizons! ...as the Empress of the Blues and I can see why . This album isn't just Bessie singing the blues , it also includes some very fine musicians , making it a treat to listen to . My favourite track on the C.D. is the title track , St. Louis Blues , just listen to the mournful rendition of Bessie and to the great cornet sound of Louis Armstrong. This review is only a small account of what Bessie Smith brought to the blues . She lived the blues and died with the blues. What she sang about happened to her every day of her life She earned some good money at times and she used most of it on drugs and booze , to kill the pain of the blues . She eventually was involved in a horrific car crash , in which she lost one of her arms . She subsequently lost her life a few days later and was buried in an unmarked grave . Now available on a 21 track plushly packaged CD that features practically every cue from the movie, and more besides. Remixed and remastered, sounding fantastic, it's probably been the most yearned for piece of Bond merchandise, and now it's here, and it doesn't disappoint. 1. We Have All the Time in the World. Composed by Barry, with vocals from jazz legend Louis Armstrong. Barry probably created the best Bond song with this wonderfully melodic and musically rich piece of work. A great tribute to Armstrong, whose last recorded work this is, and who passed away before OHMSS was released.
