Kill Bill Vol. 1 review

Advantages: Great music, engaging story
Disadvantages: Not one for the faint-hearted

classic Tarantino, the dialogue is sharp but also a tad on the surreal side. It sounds script like, but very natural, if that makes sense. It's such a fun film, although it is very bloody and gory, it's never serious, and the script reflects that. The acting is great, with everyone playing their roles well. The action is intense and very well done, with music kept at a minimum so you can hear every bone cracking and every stab with the blade. The music is superb. Quentin Tarantino always knows the perfect music to go with his films, and this is no exception. Combining soft soulful music with contemporary Japanese pop, it's a very eclectic mix but works very well together. And even Ennio Morricone makes an appearance, his song "Death Rides a Horse" is used when The Bride and O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) are staring each other out. The song reminds ...

Loves Labours Lost

Advantages: Excellent covers of some old reggae standrads
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit too slick

The creation of entire albums of music from other artists is nothing new. It has been done to great effect by David Bowie, Bryan Ferry and many more. When UB40 followed up their first 2 albums which contained their own material with an album drawn from favourite reggae songs from their youth. Having established themselves as the conscience of 80s youth with their socially aware lyrics about unemployment and social injustice it could have been seen a s a commercial sell-out and perhaps ultimately it was. It was also, however, a very fine album. That it must have been a labour of love can be heard in the loving way the songs are crafted and every track reproduces the excellence of the original. As a lover of real reggae I do have to make one minor criticism and that is that the album is too good. There is far more added production ...

Housework songs vol 1

Advantages: A good mix of songs
Disadvantages: Doesnt help you get through the housework

A cd thats a couple of years old now but still fun to listen to. I mean this cd says its meant to help you through the housework but I personally dont think it really does,if anything it distracts you, because you just start singing along to all the great tracks this album has to offer, you get caught up in the music and completely lose track of what you were doing - maybe a good thing in a way :-) Housework vol 1 is a double album that has some cracking songs that you just dont seem to hear on the radio anymore such as The Beach Boys - Help Me Rhonda and Don McLeans - American Pie. The songs on this album just make you feel good and really help to lift your spirits, but I honestly think its marketed wrong, this is a feel good album for anyone just not people doing the housework.I dont think the title of the album really represents ...
