Advantages: Imaginatively crafted punky tunes Disadvantages: Doesn't progress greatly from the last, slightly awkward (although paradoxically that is also a positive)
For a man who is exactly 16 years older to the day than a certain editor and is on his thirteenth album including seven Blur LP's, Graham Coxon sounds incredibly fresh. Regarded as one of the best guitarists of his generation, Coxon has spent the last few years establishing himself as a solo artist and he finally seems to be doing it well.
Following the relatively moderate success of 2004's 'Happiness In Magazines' and offshoots 'Freakin' Out' and 'Bittersweet Bundle Of Misery', the ex-Blur guitarist has produced another album with the potential to grace the higher echelons of the charts. Album opener and first single 'Standing On My Own Again' strays little from the previous album's direction but don't take that away from a single full of wistful emptiness and unreciprocated love.
In fact the whole album has been soaked in ...
Advantages: Very funny, easy to read Disadvantages: A bit predictable.
I read this book as part of my proof-reading job, so it wasn't really what I'd usually choose as reading material, not being a huge chick-lit fan.
It wasn't bad however.
The plot is basically that a woman who believes she is happily married emigrates to Australia with her husband, only to find that he has been cheating on her. I won't say with whom, it's a great plot twist. While recovering from her failed marriage, Lucy joins a life-saving course and has feelings for her older and ever so manly Australian instructor.
A major plus point of this story was the humour. It was mainly based on word play, same as the title, but in true Kathy Lette style it is actually quite funny. I actually laughed out loud to a few of the lines in there.
The plot I'm sad to say is a bit stereotypical and predictable at times, especially the ending, but it ...
Advantages: Ease of use - Good accessories -easy to fold down - confy for baby or toddler Disadvantages: expensive ( but worth it for accessories)!
We already had a pram/travel system (a second hand one off friends)! But we went to babies r us for an autobase for the car and came out £229.99 down! Purely because we saw this travel system and fell in love with it!
The lovely lady in babies r us showed us all the special funky little moves this travel system makes! First (and most importantly for anyone who knows what a struggle it can be putting a buggy down when getting on a bus etc) this travel system needs only one (yes one) hand to do it! It takes a quick click and twist and the travel system is down! BRILLIANT! Although I say this is handy for public transport due to the size of the buggy it is very heavy compared to other buggys so you could srtuggle lifting it onto a bus or train (unless you have friendly drivers)!
Next is the one click autobase that comes free ...

Album Notes
Personnel includes: Kathy Mattea (vocals); Bob Halligan, Jr. (acoustic guitar, piano); Jim Lauderdale, Bill Cooley, Don Potter (acoustic guitar); Duke Levine (electric guitar); Paul Franklin, Steve Sturm (pedal steel guitar); Stuart Duncan (mandolin); Jerry Douglas (dobro); Chris Carmichael (violin); Steve Lauer (accordion, harmonium); Hunter Lee (whistle, bagpipes); Lionel Cartwright (piano, background vocals); Matt Rollings (piano, Hammond B-3); Ben Wisch (synthesizer, background vocals); Tim Lauer (synthesizer); Edgar Meyer (acoustic bass); James "Hutch" Hutchinson (bass); Abe Laboriel, Jr, (drums, percussion); Jim Keltner (drums); Kirby Shelstad (percussion); Jonatha Brooke, Michael McDonald, Kim Richey (background vocals). Recorded at Woodland Studios, Nashville, Tennessee. Mattea is a tasteful, thoughtful singer who uses country music as a means to an end. Her music is not so much rooted in the country tradition as it is a by-product of it. Mattea's roots are more James Taylor than George Jones, and while steel guitars and 2/4 rhythms abound, LOVE TRAVELS is more an album of stylized Nashville folk-pop than neo-country. To flesh out her introspective vision, Mattea reaches beyond the usual stable of Nashville songwriters to include songs by some honest-to-god singer-songwriter types. Gillian Welch contributes "Patiently Waiting" and "455 Rocket," and they show Welch to be capable of writing outside her own trad-country performance style. Jim Lauderdale's "I'm On Your Side," an unsentimental oath of loyalty, is one of the album's highlights. Janis Ian's moody, minor-key "All Roads To The River" lends a dark side to LOVE TRAVELS. The clean but homey production of Mattea and Ben Wisch creates an atmosphere through which the subtle beauty of the songs can clearly be seen.
Album Reviews
Entertainment Weekly (2/14/97, p.63) - "...By setting lyrics about personal growth against splashes of Celtic fiddle and percussive world beats, Mattea strays from the Nashville norm to turn in her most mature and focused work yet." - Rating: B+
