After a tiring day it is refreshment watching a romantic comedy but there are evenings when I need some more touching films. Yesterday I watched When A Man Loves A Woman. It is a drama about a family and although there are several other characters in the film the focus is on this family. The film was directed by Luis Mandoki. He is a Mexican film director, his most famous films are El Secreto, Message in a Bottle and Angel Eyes. The classification of When A Man Loves A Woman is 15 years and over as it is about handling alcoholism. The film lasts for two hours and is very gripping there is always a twist in the story you wanted to watch. Review of When A Man Loves A Woman (DVD)

I Love You Man

Advantages: Good storyline
Disadvantages: May run 10 minutes too long

Comedy Is Lost I think that many will agree that recently, genuine comedies have been sparse, romcoms are robotically similar and funny has been lost and been replaced with short silly moments in which half the audience cringes instead of laughing. I have given up on wasting my money going to the cinema to see comedy films as they are simply all the same. I do not know whether this is due to punch lines running out or people?s preferences changing, but it has been a long time since I was that impressed by a film and I think even directors are avoiding calling their films funny to ensure that disappointment is limited. Review of I Love You, Man

Brotherly Love!

I do remember watching Rain Man at the cinema many years ago but I never had it in my DVD collection until just recently when I spotted it on offer at play.com. The film was made in 1988 and was much acclaimed at the time, winning four Oscars including the best actor in a leading role for Dustin Hoffman, best director and best picture. For those who do not know, Rain Man tells the story of Charlie Babbitt (played by Tom Cruise) and his discovery of his brother Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) who he never knew existed until the death of their father. Charlie fell out with his dad many years ago but was still hoping to inherit more than three million dollars.
