...this record cleverly balanced between innocence and lust. This is definitely not a mainstream looking love album. Apart from Serge, Jane Birkin's voice is present there. His British born muse is actually playing the role of Melody in the album. Funky, dirty, sexy, cool as hell, beautiful but more importantly modern this album just gets you to another level of musical heaven. Created by a genius, this melancholic ballade proves to be one of its kind. It inspired generations, even artists of electronic genre like "Air". Don't get distracted by the length of the album (it lasts only 28 minutes), it lasted 34 years already and is waiting to summon more followers. If anybody asked me to highlight some songs from this album I would choose "Ballade de Melody Nelson", "Ah! melody" and "Cargo culte" but this is just a small taste, to drink the whole... ...The captivating diversity of Loreena McKennitt is immediately obvious to anybody who has ever searched idly for her name on an online music store, regardless of whether or not the searcher has ever even heard her sing. Record stores, it seems, have tremendous difficulty in categorising her. 'Ethnic fusion'...'world fusion'...'folk'...Loreena is all of these things, and none of them. Incomparable, and all-eclipsing, her music is in a category - and, indeed, a world - of its own. Parallel Dreams is a fairly early album from a woman who has conclusively monopolised a market that barely existed before she recorded her debut.
