This album is actually a combination of Atmosphere's previous releases (Ford 1 and Ford 2) into a single L.P. Once again DJ Ant's beats provide the perfect backdrop for the genius lyrical stylings of Slug (a.k.a. Sean Daley). Far from being a typical "money, bitches and bling" affair, Atmosphere once again pioneer the high-brow, intelligent hip-hop they, and other members of the Anticon collective of which they are a part, have pursued. The only track containing content akin to contemporary mainstream artists; "Guns and Cigarettes", seems a decidedly tongue in cheek affair, Slug proclaiming his desire to be "I wanna bigger than Jesus and bigger than wrestling Bigger than the Beatles and bigger than breast implants", jibing at the orthodox aspirations of others.
The lyrical fare is varied, but marked by an over arching sense of introversion and introspection (highlighted by the track "Aspiring sociopath"). Slug seems to set himself aside from society, which at times seems to verge into the realm of superiority, but this is always pulled back from the edge with enough self-depreciation and self-doubt to prevent pomposity.
Standout tracks personally are "Like Today", a blissed out, narrative of a perfect day, with some fantastic sample use and summery, Del-a-Soul-esque feel. Though short, "They're all going to laugh @ you" is a meeting with God, a questioning of self and finally a stab at the entire concept of celebrity itself ("Oddly enough, I'm happy I ain't famous Imagine waking up to the fact that you're simply entertainment").
Appropriately, This is excellent Driving music, Slug often drops lines about his love for his car (his "own personal universe"), even the album title referencing the Ford motor company (and also ebing a play on "lucifer", combining to create the semi-fictional female character of "Lucy Ford". Bobbing along in the sunshine, windows rolled down, this si the perfect accompniament to an afternoon cruise.
Overall the production values are incredibly high, as you'd expect from such respected artist.
