Advantages: Lyrically stunning, incredible musical layering Disadvantages: May be too bizarre for some to stomach
...The jury's always been out on Scritti Politti as an act in general, and perhaps it always will be - this very album, their most commercially successful (and perhaps accessible) to date, generating the majority of the debate's material.
Scritti Politti is an act that has been through more structural and genre changes than perhaps any other - primarily a post-punk, politically-fuelled four-piece in the late 1970s, under perpetual frontman Green Gartside the group has been a hiphop-influenced electropop trio, a solo project, and most recently a Lo-Fi (perhaps even New Age) quintet. SP is, ultimately a label for the diverse career of Green, and it's widely disputed that this album encapsulates his finest work - and I'm very close to agreeing.
Cupid and Psyche '85 is not your typical 80s electropop album - even from first hearing, it...

Advantages: Heavy Dark and Great Disadvantages: Too Repetative at times.
...a relatively laid back bit of psyche with the odd heavy workout to keep things varied and is one of my favorite songs on the record. Great for looking at the ceiling and nodding off to as well.
Spaceship Landing relentlessly pounds you, as a spaceship landing would and Scotts vocals counter pointed by end of line adlibs by josh works wonderful well, then goes into a quiet jam and is finished off in frenzy off feedback.
Kyuss were a great band that never got the recognition they deserved when they were around but in 1995 when this album was released music like this was just coming round again into public view. 10 years on from the release of this Album I can say that if it was released now they would be getting hailed as the saviors of rock and roll unfortunately they were 10 years too early of 20 years too late....

Advantages: Cherkassky playing at his best in wide range of solo works Disadvantages: No Godowsky included
...This is one of the best recordings of the great Romantic Virtuoso pianist, Shura Cherkassky. It showcases him at his best in a recital covering a wide range of repertoire. He is known for being wayward in some of his performances, but there is very little of that in this recital.
His performances vary considerably, depending on his moods, the audience and other external factors. He was in top form at this 1982 recital and was very happy with his performance afterwards.
He starts the recital with Suite de Pieces by Lully, one of the most well-known early French Baroque composers. Lully was one of the first conductors, hitting the ground with a stick. Unfortunately he died after he hit his toe by accident with the stick.
This music was obviously written for the harpsichord (or one of its close relatives) and is not often...
