THE TRACKS
1. BURN (7:32)
This is absolutely a good starting track. Ian Paice strikes the drums nicely for the intro of this song. The whole track is awesome from start to finish. This track has a pure metallic touch. I like the rendition of all the instruments specially the solo rendition of guitar and the keyboard. in this track and David Coverdale's great effort on vocals.
2. MISTREATED (11:32)
This track is a very catchy one. Richie grabs the first shine of the limelight with his awesome guitar solo intro which is great. David shows off his classic vocals in this song. I love the bluesy melody and the timing of the instruments.
3. LADY DOUBLE DEALER (4:15)
This is a very electrifying track. The whole band is 'on fire' in this track with great energy. This track keeps me alive from start to finish. David goes high- pitch in his vocals and the instruments keep the track really amazing.
4. YOU FOOL NO ONE (16:42)
This a very catchy track that I keep on remembering some lines right after the song track is played. It starts with an awesome intro that makes me catch my breath. The instruments are played nicely with some dramatic breaks. The silence is then broken by Ian's excellent banging of drums. This track is really lengthy but I really don't mind that.
5. STORMBRINGER (5:38)
This track is a heavy metal rock but it doesn't disturb my ears in anyway. This track seems to prove that Deep Purple has the authority to go heavy metal. The timing of the instruments is good. This is not my favorite track in this album but I don't mind listening to this one.
The Album
Deep Purple Made In Europe is a live album released in 1976 after the members disbanded. It contains 5 tracks which were recorded in 1975. This album underwent extensive editing in recording due to overwhelming applause, whistling and crowd noise while Deep Purple performed the songs.
I accidentally got this album in a Christmas party 6 years ago. It was meant to be given to a man. The supposedly recipient of this CD wasn't able to attend the party. To make the long story short, this CD ended up in my possession. It was Christmas so I didn't complain at all.
This album is good but not the best. I would have appreciated it more if it added a bonus track or two. I am not really a Deep Purple fan but I can't help but be amazed by the awesome talents of each of the members. Everybody seems to work hard and excellently in this album.
THE POWERVOICE
David Coverdale has great vocals. I love him when he sings with his classic natural base-signature voice. He does well in with his high-pitched songs but he misses it sometimes when he hits it really high. It's good that the instruments are played so loud that most listeners haven't noticed it. But even then, David Coverdale has a very powerful voice.
A MUSIC TREASURE This Deep Purple Made In Europe album is really hard to find nowadays in retail stores and the songs are rarely heard anywhere. I realized then that I am actually possessing a treasure of the Deep Purple band by having this CD
Advantages: None that I can think of - oh it's Deep Purple, that has to be one! The songs are OK but... Disadvantages: Shoddy production, poor mixing, badly "hashed together" tracks, not worth the money
This album was released at a turbulent spot in Deep Purple's history - Mark II (with Gillan and Glover) had broken up and the new team (with Coverdale and Hughes now fronting the band) weren't too comfortable with each other. This album seems rushed and badly mixed and altogether shoddily "hashed together" to fit a single LP.
Make no mistake, the music is quality, as always with the group; a different, more bluesy feel to the Burn tracks and a more ... ...post-production fails this album miserably.
The set opens with Burn, a stalwart opener of Mark III's set. Blackmore seems on fire, the playing is tight, and the band seem to be gelling. But the sound is flat, weak and wimpish sounding, which is not exactly what a heavy rock band needs. We progress to Mistreated, a blues rock number about "everday life, everday things that 'appen to us" as Hughes once announced. This is definitely one of my favourites ...
