Marmaduke Duke are a band based in Ayrshire, Scotland. The two peice are comprised of 'The Dragon' (JP Reid - Sucioperro) and 'The Atmosphere' (Simon Neil - Biffy Clyro). The two have taken a break from fronting their own bands to collaborate for 'The Magnificent Duke' - an album divided into 3 sections, each with 6 tracks.

Track 1 is a track from Explodes, track 2 from Implodes and track 3 from Corrodes, and so on throughout the album.

The first section (Explodes) is comparable to the 'louder' songs performed by the two original bands. Simon Neil screams his way through the tracks supported by pounding drums and distorted guitars. Opening track 'The Red and The Number' has an 'a capella' intro which does its best to mislead the listener into what to expect. 'The False and The Cinematic' provides shrill screeches from Neil and JP Reid singing a counterpoint melody. This combined with the offbeat rhythm from the guitars and drums makes for an interesting yet challenging listen.

Highlight - The Kill and the Kure

When the world Implodes is a section based around acoustic songs written by Reid. the vocals from both members are soft and fragile and there's even some catchy chorus' that will have you humming along. 'An Imposter and A Magician' has a beautiful chorus which is supported by some clever guitar work that combine for a very pleasant aural experience.

Highlight - A Curse and a Coyote

The final section 'When the world Corrodes' is an experimental instrumental section, there are some good ideas here but the production is lacklustre and the songs suffer as a result. Some of it I found to be very repetitive also, its definately the weaker of the three sections.

Overall this album is a must for fans of Biffy and Sucioperro, a number of the songwriting techniques used are very similar to that of the two bands, and the vocals are exceptional.
