Well, OK, I know some people out there will call me sad for admitting to liking the Bee Gees, as they are not fashionable for a 21 year old to like, however one thing is for sure, they cannot be overlooked, and must be respected for being some of the finest songwriters in music history.

I'm sure everyone out there knows the history of the Bee Gees achieving phenomenal success for the past 35 years with their most famous work being that of the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever, and the disco classics such as Stayin' Alive. However, they have released many albums throughout the years, and after the tragic death of Maurice Gibb, (RIP Maurice, you will be missed.) I have started to listen again to some of their older material, and some of the lesser known albums.

One of these is the 1975 album called Main Course. With every track written by the Bee Gees, this album could arguably be there best ever, and spawned 3 huge hits and is the first album in which Barry Gibb sings in his famous falsetto style. This album also shows the group blending their traditional styles with a new R&B influence.

I will give an overview of the album below with ratings out of 10.

THE TRACKS

Nights On Broadway :- A classic track, inkeeping with much of their early work featuring the first ever example of Barry's falsetto singing. (9)

Jive Talking :- An upbeat track, good dance hall tune. A big hit in 1975. (8)

Winds of Change :- Another good track, with Barry Gibb again on top form with this feel good offering. (8)

Songbird :- A romantic ballad type of song with Barry giving an excellent performance on this the slowest track on the album. (9)

Fanny (be Tender With My Love) :- Again a romantic ballad with Barry taking the lead vocals. This was a huge hit in the mid seventies, and is by far the best track on the album. (10)

All This Making Love :- More rock based track here, not really what you would expect from the Bee Gees, although a decent track, it's possibly the weakest on the album (7)

Country Lanes :- Another slow romantic track here, with the brothers again back to safer ground after the previous offering. (9)

Come On Over :- Again a romantic track, with a slightly quicker chorus. Not my favourite I have to confess. (7)

Edge of the Universe :- A slightly more upbeat track here, slightly unusual style but still enjoyable. (8)

Baby as you Turn Away :- Another romantic one here to finish with Barry singing falsetto for the majority of the track. One of the stronger offerings. (8)

To sum up if there are any Bee Gees fans out there (come on I know I'm not the only one!!!), this album is well worth buying if you are interested in some of their earlier work before Saturday Night Fever, however it can be quite hard to find a copy.
