Advantages: An amazing experience, Disadvantages: Weather dependant so you could miss it even if you are in the area.
WHERE IS THE GLACIER?
In New Zealand?s south Island on the West Coast is a real gem known as Westland National Park, a very special area where two permanent glaciers come down to meet a lush green temperate rainforest at about 300 metres above sea level. There are only a few places in the world where two contrasting bio geographical phenomena meet and this is one. The Franz Joseph Glacier is about 12 km long and together with Fox Glacier and the surrounding area has been designated a World heritage site .
The Franz Joseph Glacier was named after the famous Austrian Emperor of the same name in 1865by an Austrian explorer but its Maori name; Ka Roimata o Hinehukatere means the tears of Hinehukatere which is a much more poetic name I feel. Advantages: Great fun singalong album Disadvantages: NA
This has got to be one of my favourite albums ever!
Franz ferdinand are a Glasgow based indie style band, and this is their debut album. The album starts with Jacqueline, one of the most catchy songs - with the chorus it's always better on holiday, so much better on holiday. This track has been used on various TV ad campaigns, including Tennants festivals.
This is followed by Tell her tonight, another catchy guitar based track with a singalong chorus.
Take me out follows, one of the single releases from the album. This song captures their sound perfectly, and most of the tracks on the album are in the same style. It's a typical guitar rocky/punky track, with a singalong chorus.
The dark of the matinee follows, slightly slower with less energy, but an equally singalong chorus - and a mention of Terry Wogan!
Auf Achse ...
Advantages: Something a little bit different. Disadvantages: n/a
I have always been a fan of Franz Ferdinand yet so far I have been unable sadly to watch them play live. The albums they release will be as close as I get to them. Thankfully they have once again produced a kicking third album!
Tonight was released late January and I have been unable to stop playing it. Lead singer Alex Kapranos stated that "The last record was...like a teenager having sex. This one's a bit more assured and a bit friendlier for the dance floor." And to be honest in an odd kind of way I agree. Not that I didn't like their last album but their most recent wipes it under the carpet.
The songs on this album still have the thumping guitar and drums backing but they've been added with slightly electro style sounds. Making it stand out more so in difference to the others. I get the feeling that they were told they ...
