Advantages: An insight into the great mind that was - Frank Zappa Disadvantages: May be a little to wild for some people.
. Very tight musicianship is shown with weird time sigs and a nice use of brass.
Track Four - Father O'Blivion
''
This is one of my favorites on the album; the musical composition is excellent and it also has a funny story, which I won't spoil for you here. This is a great track you'll have to put on again and again to get a 'good listen' out of it.
Track Five - Cosmik Debris
'
Humorous undertones of the use of drugs here, funny nonetheless, Ruth Underwood on percussion provides more humor also but also displays her fantastic musical talent and how she gels with Zappa. 'But I've got a crystal ball!' is the funniest line in the song - you'll know why.
Track Six - Excentrifugal Forz ...
Advantages: Easy to read and very informative Disadvantages: May be difficult to track down
ISBN 0-330-31625-7. This is an important number. It's the ISBN of "The Real FrankZappa Book" published by Picador. I bought this, read it, loved it, lent it, never got it back, forgot about it , then saw it in Fopps in Glasgow for a paltry £3.50, bought it, read it again, and now I'll tell you about it.
FrankZappa died of cancer about 1992/3 and was a great loss to the art world. He hd been making music since the early sixties , with the Mothers of Invention, and as a solo artist, and also became a respected classical composer. His work "The Yellow Shark" stayed on the classical charts for over twelve months following its release.
THe book is a series of recollections about Zappa's early life and how he became who he is and the aquaintances he made along the way.
The most fascinating part of this book, and the one that gives ...
Advantages: a brilliant 1974 concert with a top notch Zappa band Disadvantages: not quite the whole gig and the instrumentals may be a little off putting to newcomers
be delighted to learn that the truly amazing guitar solo was actually lifted from this concert and that the version of "Inca Roads" presented here is almost the equal of the studio track. George's tongue twisting vocals, the absurd percussion breaks, the glorious jazz funk keyboard solo and Zappa's stately guitar solo make up what is surely one of Zappa's most impressive songs.
The gig keeps going with a monstrous "RDNZL" and a bunch of songs familiar from the 1974 Roxy and Elsewhere album before crashing into a spectacular "Pygmy Twylyte" which has another superb guitar solo at the end. Disc one ends with a hurried rush through "Cheepnis", Zappa's hilarious ode to 50's monster movies, but it's a pity that Nappy was losing his voice by this point and it sounds rather hoarse.
The second disc is primarily instrumental - partly due to ...

Album Notes
Personnel: Frank Zappa (vocals, guitar, synthesizers); Ike Willis, Mike Keneally (guitar, synthesizers); Kurt McGettrick (contrabass clarinet, baritone saxophone); Paul Carman (soprano, alto & baritone saxophones); Albert Wing (tenor saxophone); Walt Fowler (trumpet, flugelhorn); Bruce Fowler (trombone); Bobby Martin (keyboards); Scott Thunes (Mini-Moog synthesizer, bass); Ed Mann (vibraphone, marimba, percussion); Chad Wackerman (drums, percussion). The third collection from the infamous 1988 final world tour, MAKE A JAZZ NOISE HERE is easily one of Zappa's most challenging live recordings in his massive catalog. Comprised mostly of instrumental masterpieces ("King Kong," "T'Mershi Duween"), bizarre group improvisations ("When Yuppies Go To Hell") and a few comedic novelty songs ("Stevie's Spanking"), this two-disc set is a revealing look at one of Zappa's most accomplished (and largest) bands of his career. Also included are some unique (although short) quotes from Stravinsky's "L'Histoire Du Soldat" and Bartok's "Piano Concerto #3." What's more, this is a great illustration of how Zappa actually "played" the band. His use of sampled sound bites ("Fire And Chains") and electronically manipulated sound effects ("Star Wars Won't Work") along with his command of instant stylistic changes in mid-song ("The Black Page") gives us a picture of his immense tonal palette from which he created each performance. It is sad, however, that this was the last time the world would hear this brilliant artist in a live setting.
