It?s a new kind of community/dating site, not your usual meat market. I first found out about MakeFriendsOnline or MFO to its users while perusing a Which report on dating sites. I'd never paid for dating sites as I consider them a waste of money but the glowing report prompted me to take a looksee.
First impressions
The sign in page is a colourful purple with a big white border. The logo itself is a cute rainbow which is oddly welcoming. There are some pictures of happy laughing couples and groups of all ages to emphasise the point that this is not a thinly disguised meat market, although dating is the primary draw for most people. Elmer's newfriend is??
Let's just say it really 'makes' the book special!
~ Illustrations ~
David McKee is a great illustrator and was in fact the illustrator for Paddington Bear books.
As with all Elmer books, the colours are very rich and vibrant which really appeals to young children.
Although very simple, there is still a lot of detail in the illustrations with the foliage depicting the environment that Elmer lives in.
The really special part of the book is the mirror at the end. By looking in to this, the child reading the book is delighted to find out that they are Elmer's newfriend. This never fails to delight very young children as they feel extremely special about being a friend of Elmer's!
